Half of the top seeds in their 15s pools struggled some in the first matches in the 15s. Probably a case of nerves with the first match. Torrimar (1) won in 3 HBC (4) won in 3 - third game 27-25 Durham (5) won in 3 MVC (6) lost in 3 Also, not that it makes a huge difference but a slight difference, there are fewer teams at 15s than there are at any other age division. With a smaller field the bottom teams are more competitive compared to the rest of the competition than the full 36 team field that all the other age divisions have.
But yes, the 1st match of the entire tournament always seems to be the one with some of the tightest matches.

Looks like 15s pool 6 will play out as seeded. OCVC beats MVC in 3, BRYC beats OCVC in 2, and MVC beats BRYC in 2. OCVC and BRYC both beat Warren Sixpak in 3, while MVC beat Warren Sixpak in 2. So you'll have 3 teams at 2-1 and 1 team at 0-3. MVC will take 1st based on set record at 5-2, BRYC will take 2nd at 4-3, and OCVC will take 3rd at 4-4. All 3 teams move on without any challenge pool for OCVC due to only 32 teams, so teams that finish 1-3 in each pool move on to day 2 still alive.

Pretty poor showing from the Midwest teams in 16 Open. All teams dropped out after Day 2, except for Vanguard and some club called Hitmen (they dropped seed though). Then both of these teams got eliminated today. I watched the court 3 matches today and boy does Hitmen need to work on 1st contact skills. Hopefully, the Midwest teams play better at the 17s and 18s levels.

Huge upsets already in 18 open with spri mizuno dropping their first match in 2 to mvvc, bones losing to nvc, and ultimate gold losing to rockstar I'm only following it in AES but looks like seaside who was #9 overall went down to HPSTL Orange making it 4 #1 seeds going down to #3 seeds, along with a #2 Diablo (12 overall?) Falling to a #4 seed. Sets up for an interesting day.

Weird day 1 so far. Looks like Diablo will go 0-3, knocking them out. Vortex beat Coastal, potentially forcing a three way tie if Coastal beats SCVC. And what the hell is going on in pool 3??? A depleted MVVC team beating SPVB Mizuno? Weird tournament so far.

I wouldn't call either game an upset they forced coastal into tough spots and held their own when game 2 got tight. Dante C. is a fantastic setter

What is up with Team Rockstar? They look very different from the classic and asc play.

Going into Day 3 info for 15s
Only 4 teams have kept their original seeds heading into day 3 15 of the top original 18 seeds remain eligible for the gold bracket.
Pool 1 (1) Torrimar - started 1 seed - one of 4 teams that are 6-0 (12 Southport - started 16 - Record is 3-3 - odd factor since 3rd seed in pool has 4-2 record (14) LIVBC-National - started 10 - - Record 4-2 - beat one higher seed lost to one lower seed
Pool 2 Odd pool - all the teams stuck with their original seed (2) MB Surf - started 2 seed - one of 4 teams that are 6-0 (11) BRYC - started as 11 seed (4-2) (13) HPSTL - started as 13 seed (3-3)
Pool 3 (3) SASVBC - started as 8 seed - (5-1) - beat HBC at the SCVA Invite. Will they do it again here? (5) HBC - started as 4 seed - (5-1)- 2nd day played in pool with 3 teams with only one win each. I was surprised to see they finished 2nd in their pool. Anyone see their pool? (16) MVC - started as 6 seed (3-3)
Pool 4 (4) KU'IKAHI - started as 19 - (4-2) - only won one match on day 1 and had a playoff game to determine 3rd or 4th in pool on day one that they won. Then came back strong on day 2 and went 3-0 to win pool (9) VAQUEROS - started as 3 - (5-1) - only loss has been to SASVBC (15) Roch Pace Bootleggr - started as 18 seed (3-3)
Pool 5 (5) Pali - started as 12 seed - (6-0) (8) MVVC - Started as 17 seed - (4-2) only only team to score over 20 points against Torrimar. They took Torrimar to a third game. (18) Main Beach - started as 23 - (2-4) - only team with a losing record left
Pool 6 (6) 949 - started as 9 - (6-0) (7) HVA - started as 20 - (3-3) half their matches have gone 3 games - including loss to HBC in game 3 25-27 (17) Durham - started as 5 - (3-3)

Day 1 for 18s was pretty crazy.
Biggest surprises to me: Bones going 1-2 the first day and finishing 3rd in their pool All of the sudden Balboa 18 is in the third seed slot. 4 of 9 top seeds lost their seed Only 2 pools had teams finish in the place they were supposed according to the seed in their pool (pools 1 and 2)
Anyone making predictions of upsets in Day 1 for 17s?

Congrats to 16s Spectrum 16 for going 11-0 and taking gold Balboa 16 for silver MB Surf for bronze - They came in with 10 seed and pulled off some big upset wins on day 3 and took Spectrum to 3 in the semis before losing 15-17 Roch Pace Bootleggr for bronze
