Bruno with a terrible set, Alison has to reach back for it and hits long - 22-20 USA.

With a chance to win the game, Nick hit a roll shot to the center of the court. More or less in where you would hit a shot if you didnt know where the defense was but wanted to get dug. Part of this is Nick is overmatched physically but a lot is mental. He has made maybe 7-9 really bad passes

Thanks for the updates!! Hope they pull it off. If they do I can't seem to think Phil by himself beat the best team in the world. Nick has to be doing something good. Lol.

Lucena just dug the last 2 hits nicely and USA up now 8-6.
Phil serves long on the jump serve though
Brazil returns the favor and also goes long.
Refs call Phil for net touch and phil gets mad as Lucena digs it. No net touch on the replay

Phil totally misses a hit there though. Brazil then serves again and end up with Lucena blocking it out.

Ugh...Lucena watches the ball drop in on the line off a bump over return from brazil. Now up 13-10

Bruno misses on a hit and now it's 14-13.
Alison puts it away though on the next serve from Phil to win 15-13

Not bad I guess tho since they played the best team in the world right now. Make 1 more play ans they may have won it. What happened at the end?

Nick has played some pretty good defense IMO. Just was really struggling hitting early on and his passing off the serve was bad I hate to be a contrarian and I think Nick has made some great digs but he has also failed to break on a lot of shots he could have come close to. Its amazing someone could play as well as Phil did and still lose. Hard to say when he lost 15-13 to the world no. 1 in the first FIVB together, but I think this tournament shows Phil made the wrong decision. Any other US defender, all the way down to Mayer and Phil wins this tournament. If he keeps playing like this, he and Nick will eventually win, but Nick played exactly the way he did in the Netherlands when he got to the top levels and the way he more or less always has. Great guy, intense competitor, can't hold his own at this level.
