Presumably April would prefer to play with Jen if Kerri is not available I wonder if this is true. I think April has moved on from Kessy and would not want to go back to split blocking. The pairing with Fendrick is very interesting. They are scheduled to play this weekend, presumably, as a warm up for this event but perhaps there is more to it than meets the eye. There is a debate on whether Kerri can make it back in time to qualify (and be healthy) for the Olympics - April/Kerri run to Olympics is Plan A. I think most think Kerri can recover but shoulder surgeries are tricky and if there are any complications whatsoever...if you are sitting in April's shoes - she is in a precarious position. With Fendrick becoming available - has this become a viable Plan B? I like a Fendrick/April pairing much more then April/Fopma in terms of international ceiling. What would the path look like if Kerri does not make it back - is it possible for April/Fendrick to get there based on FIVB schedule and any alternative routes? Not possible via Olympic Rankings. Only 3 events left this year. No way there are 9 in the qualifying period next year. Possible through continental cup if there aren't 2 other US teams qualified through Olympic rankings (which unless Summer/Carico take off is not likely).

Lauren seems like a great person, but she cant win a gold medal. They could give her Nick Lucena and her ceiling would still be a lucky draw 3rd. April's only non-Kerri chances (assuming qualification rules were ignored) would be Jen or Summer Ross after an offseason of massive improvement and even then you are talking a 5 % chance with either.

April and MIsty would be a fun combo since she is playing a little bit.

Going to be interesting to see how April/Fendrick play this weekend - we flew out to watch, so I will post some thoughts after seeing them tomorrow. The way April is playing, she can/will win with almost anybody who can throw up a halfway decent block and side out fairly consistently - Fendrick is certainly one of those players.

Interesting to see that Carumbula's alleged visa issues are presumably worked out? I hate the Kessy/Day wildcard. I understand it, but don't think they've done anything to deserve it. Although now that I go back and look, the only teams that have significantly better per event played results are CQed out (Lima/Fernanda and Borger/Buthe (also hurt)) Team - average points per event entered Lima/Fernanda 443 (CQ) Borger/Buthe 373 (CQ) Menegatti/Orsi Toth 353 Brzostek/Kolosinska 344 Ukolova/Birlova 339 Holtwick/Semmler 333 (CQ) Wang Fan/Yue 332 Kessy/Day 329 Looking at the list this way, I guess the only real threat to them could have been Menegatti/Orsi Toth as I think Menegatti is a Red Bull athlete. Obviously attracting the US crowds more important. I am looking forward to seeing what Fendrick and Ross can do together.

It's a shame the Men's champions of the past 2 years aren't invited. Latvia's Samoilovs-Smedins are currently ranked 7th after a pause for injury and Italy's Ranghieri/Carambula only 27th! Rio and Sochi first places in the last 3 weeks including a victory over Phil.

I saw Adrain was in but now his name is not in the pools. The other Italy team is. I assume he couldn't get in the states again.

"Oh you're 14, sorry thats an extra $900 enjoy!"

Staying next door, I'll just pour my own drinks.

Though Fendrick won with April, man I was not impressed with her play (WAY too many unforced errors of a low risk/low reward probability). April is really something and if she put more balls in play (Yeah, I know the drill on "best server in the world"), she would separate from the field (PROOF: If Kerri can win reasonably well serving underhanded, and her Long Beach performance proved that, is KILLING the serve (WHILE missing many) REALLY worth the risk? Just say'n....
