Interested to see who people think could legitimately win National Championship this year. Make this a poll?

I would say Illinois could have a pretty good shot at winning this upcoming season. I'm trying to remember the last team to win a national title with a true freshman setter . . . I believe only Holloway at Nebraska and Kehoe at Stanford have done it. And they had sensational pin hitters at their disposal (pavan, larson/nnmani and richards)... Illinois does not have that

First run choices are Stanford, PSU, and Texas. Next tier is Nebraska, Wisconsin, Florida. I'd be absolutely shocked if the NC came from a team not listed above.

Do you think a non power 5 conference team will ever win a national title in vb?

Penn State, right? Nebraska did it, too, iirc. I am way too lazy to look this up. Nebraska did not have a true freshman starting at setter on any of the three national championship teams.

I know we are a dark horse but I would love to see Kentucky in the Final Four this season. Morgan Bergen was Second Team All- American last season and she has a pretty good group of front line players,

Morgan Bergen was Second Team All- American last season and she has a pretty good group of front line players, I put Kentucky in that goupr of teams (North Carolina, Arizona State) who could reach their first Final Four in program history sometime in the next five years or so; with Lexington playing host to Regional just about every other year now, that definitely increases their chances.

Illinois does not have that Holloway red-shirted her first year but age wise she would have been the same age as a true freshman. Holloway was home schooled & with her family moving to another state Holloway decided to enroll a year early.

I forgot PSU didn't win Glass's first year. Probably more amazing (than Kehoe or Holloway) that they won one with Carpenter. Not because she wasn't talented. Just because she hadn't set for them before and didn't set for them again, really.

Do you think a non power 5 conference team will ever win a national title in vb? Never say never. You never know what the college landscape will look like 10-20 years from now.

It's worth noting in this discussion that the regional hosts this fall are Texas, Northern Iowa, San Diego and Kentucky.
