Nikki Taylor had 8 digs while the libero Kahakai had only 6 the whole match. In contrast, Granato had 3 digs in very limited playing time.
I'm still puzzled by Huff's absence.

Well, after all the preseason hype and reports out of training camp, I have to say that I'm a bit disappointed at the performance of the team tonight. With so many starters back, I expected a well oiled machine. That said, a win is a win, and I think Idaho is good enough to finish higher than fifth in their conference. I also expect that Shoji and company will iron out the kinks and the team that shows up tomorrow against WSU will perform much better. Go Bows!

Watching the replay now......Kahakai played a worst game than I actually believed. A bunch of overpasses, and her discontinue of play for more than a few balls that she could have popped up if she dug deep or laid out for. Come on Kahakai......you are the libero for a reason! Sacrifice your body to get those damn balls popped back up!
I hope this is just a one time thing for her.

Honestly....with the depth we have....I think this team can overcome it. I also think Kahakai could do a way better job than she did. Tsuji just mentioned in a timeout how coaches had to talk to Kahakai and have her relax out there. Maybe she was just too tense or hesitant? Hope she can shake it off.

Sacrifice your body to get those damn balls popped back up! I hope this is just a one time thing for her. I think everyone maybe was giving her the benefit of the doubt. I wonder if they (NCAAs) are able to use the 2 libero rule (that I think is allowable internationally??). Anyway, after the first few plays (primarily close ricochet off blocks that she wasn't retrieving) I had my doubts, then when I saw the inconsistencies in passing and more balls hitting the floor, I thought ... oh no, sub please. It was especially hard to watch when her and maybe Olevao was passing/defending. I'm glad he put in Granato to help out with the pass -- whether it was Greeley or Olevao. Sometimes it was like the back row was like trees. However, with that said, and there's also a post on the amount of Nicki Taylor's digs, I felt like Idaho was deliberately tipping at her (Taylor) to get her out of position and force someone else to put away the ball. With that said, I did like Kahakai last year, don't know if it's too big a role for her ... hopefully not. She is reminiscent of Kaaihue in that they have good anticipation (and therefore don't necessarily do those flashy digs), but today, even that was off. Hopefully that was just jitters and she can stabalize -- otherwise, all those supposed offensive options will be negated.

I'm sure she'll shake it off. She WILL get better and so will the others. First game jitters and high expectations from fans don't mix. They'll start to roll once they jell on the court.

Both Maglio and Kahakai underperformed tonight. Kahakai just wasn't getting to the ball and Maglio was hitting the ball when she was already under or even in front of it. They both are capable of playing so much better.
On the plus side the connection between Higgins and Maglio looks better than it was last year.
As far as putting Huff into play tonight, I'm very excited to see how much she's improved but she's playing behind Taylor who was the only real bright spot offensively tonight for the Wahine. Why would you pull Taylor just to see how Huff would play when there was very real danger of the Wahine losing both the second and third sets?
I'm very disappointed with the way the Wahine played tonight. Once again they're serve receive hobbled them.
This team has players at every hitting position that can do some major damage offensively but it's all going to depend on how well they can pass and set the ball.
