And that has to be one of the smallest planes I have ever seen, I think the inside of a Scud or ICBM has more room than that things does. Maybe that's why they got there first actually, instead of an actual plane, they just shot them via missile

In no way is the UNC BYU loss surprising. A quick look at the notes and the match looks very similar to how FSU played them in the tourny (who besides PSU played them best). At 22-16 in the fourth and seizing momenttum Gray comes back to the front row and UNC/FSU loses in extra points. For BYU not to start ranked higher in last year's tourny or to the start of the year is puzzling. The -27 USC loss is as much a puzzlement, but only by margin, USC proved last year that they can win (or lose) against anyone. If Wisky is a #10 or lower side they will have a worrisome time, but lacking a solid front is not a good thing to have against the the top B1G, PAC, FSU (lol) teams.
UNC will roll over Mn; I don't see a freshman setter who has yet to see much of the front row being able to do a lot to improve last year's 50 something side this early in the season. Perhaps they will play themselves into a spoiler role this B1G season, but atm there is nothing about there play last week that says they are any better than a 25-30 team at best.

OK Wisky fans. On my way to Louisville and it occurs to me that since there's limited coverage of the match, maybe you'd prefer stats or info to my cheering. Can't do both. ? Understanding that I am a, uh, "seasoned" spectator but not a professional, what sort of stuff are you interested in? For example, if you asked me that question I would say serve-rec (3,2,1 passes). I would like you to cheer more than anything. Remember, we do have gametracker and the radio broadcast. If you want to report during breaks in play, there a few general things that we're watching for after last weekend. 1. How is the connection between Carlini and the middles on the quick or slide, or on backsets to the RS? There were periods when it was really shaky at times last weekend, but it got better. Want to continue to see that progress. 2. Is the serving aggressive and forcing the other team out of system? This is a leading indicator of how well we'll do in general. Without strong serving we don't generally win - or at least we struggle. 3. What are we doing with second balls when Carlini (#1) digs the first. Morey (the libero) was getting these last weekend, and largely bump setting, usually to a backrow attacker. I'd like to see that progress to something a little more sophisticated. 4. Is Kriskova doing well. We need her but coming back from such a long time with injury, it's always a question mark. Otherwise, just general impressions or cool plays...

Just to be clear, what you're saying is that UNC has a weakness in defense at the net in at least one of their rotations? Or maybe all the way around? I thought their middles were a strong suit. Gray is just a really good player. Hard for anyone to stop when she's on her game. I'd like to know a little more about strengths and weaknesses of this UNC team...without trying too hard of course. I literally have no idea what will happen in this match, which is why I didn't even vote - -would just be guessing.

Like was said in an earlier post and in other threads, it doesn't seem like they have an L2 yet. That they stood up quite well to BYU should be a big concern for opponents.

I should add that they graduated a very good Libero, which I believed would be their first problem, however, that has not come up yet in a not so chatty ACC, ( at leastwithout the poster whose vertices often fail adding up ) I believe they like running with five good pin hitters, which they have not settled on.

I would like to know about setter/hitter connections and how close they are to being on the same page - that is how many kinks have been worked out in the past week and how far they have to go yet. Have a great time all who can make it! +1 Also interested to see how the back row communication evolves, Gillis/Morey in particular, A-Mac/everyone. Duello playing time (either pin): Really have to develop an extra scoring weapon, a la PSU's Lee, who contributed in both matches vs. Bucky last year, and it only comes with reps and confidence.

We made it! Wow, what an insane drive. Construction and accidents galore. The last 15 miles took nearly an hour. gophergal, if you're still on the road and catch this during a rest stop or something, watch out for that final stretch of I-65 S over the Ohio River. It CRAWLS. Off to get some food & beverage, then to the match! If we can serve tough to keep them from running their middles, and hit & use their block in a smart way, we should be able to get this one done.

If it's other than the following I'll be amazed.
S - Carlini OH - Bates OH - Gillis MB - Nelson MB - Williams RS - Kriskova L - Morey DS - MacDonald
