I say: 1. USC 2. Texas 3. Penn State 4. Arizona State 5. Washington 6. Nebraska 7. Stanford 8. Ohio State 9. Illinois 10. Hawaii Now you have Stanford moving up for losing a game??? Even though the loss was to a highly ranked team, no one should move up, let alone stand pat after losing. Stanford most likely will end up somewhere in the top ten at the end of the season as they have a very formidable team. But, they should not be ranked in top ten for this week. What about Illinois and Florida? They shouldn't stay at their current rankings they both lost two games to teams ranked lower than them

well obviously they *could*, but that would be antithetical to how the AVCA poll usually operates. Teams rarely drop for losing to teams ranked above them and they rarely ever get passed over by a team that did nothing. And rest assure that beating two teams with a combined 6-25 record is surely doing nothing. Reasonable argument but from what i gathered, Stanford has 3 losses and really should have had 4 losses but were saved by the incompetence of the refs. They will drop one spot tomorrow.

Why would Hawaii overtake a Stanford team who lost on the road to a team ranked above them? and also in the same week they got a road win against #14? Stanford has 3 losses, including a loss to a team that is currently unranked. I don't care when the loss happened and where Stanford was ranked last week. I'm not saying that Stanford is better than Hawaii, I'm just saying that between last weeks poll and this weeks poll, the results don't suggest that the AVCA voters will put Hawaii over Stanford. Could that happen, sure, but historical trends say otherwise.

I don't think the AVCA voters will concern themselves of random ref calls....assuming they even watched the match in the first place (unlikely).

The question is who replaces them. Florida won't. I don't understand this statement. Florida will fall. Stanford will fall according to you. So I'm wondering whether Hawaii or which other teams will be ranked higher

Loss is a loss. Many thought they were #1 team at the beginning of the season. They have 4 losses now. It shouldn't matter you are Stanford, PSU, Texas or any other schools. Just like any other sports, it's what have you done lately. They do have top 10 program, so they'll most likely will be in it down the road, but those who lost this weekend should move down a bit, including PSU, maybe Nebraska and Washington. Illinois and Florida should not even be in top 15 after losing two games. Some lost a very close 5 set matches, so that should be in the consideration, but just because you carry a big name should not be considered for the ranking.

I don't understand this statement. Florida will fall. Stanford will fall according to you. So I'm wondering whether Hawaii or which other teams will be ranked higher Ohio state and Kansas will jump in. I think Stanford will still be in the top 10, dropping one spot to #9. Illinois and Florida will fall out.

I agree that past achievements or a big name shouldn't matter. But in reality I think the voters do give the reputation of a program some consideration when voting. Can you imagine how poorly Penn State would have to do to leave the top 10? Even if they lost a few matches I think voters would give them the benefit of the doubt because they're Penn State and they have a historically great program. It isn't fair, I agree. But I think it is a reality.

Previously Arkansas won over a then #11 rated Wisconsin, and now they win over a #9 Florida. As of the last poll, they were 7 votes outside the "Top 25". I wonder how far they will ascend in the next poll?
