Loss is a loss. Many thought they were #1 team at the beginning of the season. They have 4 losses now. It shouldn't matter you are Stanford, PSU, Texas or any other schools. Just like any other sports, it's what have you done lately. They do have top 10 program, so they'll most likely will be in it down the road, but those who lost this weekend should move down a bit, including PSU, maybe Nebraska and Washington. Illinois and Florida should not even be in top 15 after losing two games. Some lost a very close 5 set matches, so that should be in the consideration, but just because you carry a big name should not be considered for the ranking. I agree that past achievements or a big name shouldn't matter. But in reality I think the voters do give the reputation of a program some consideration when voting. Can you imagine how poorly Penn State would have to do to leave the top 10? Even if they lost a few matches I think voters would give them the benefit of the doubt because they're Penn State and they have a historically great program. It isn't fair, I agree. But I think it is a reality. But the coaches vote for AVCA ranking, not the media or the school ADs. They are the people who should implement fair and balance judgement in their voting. As you said, it's the reality. I just am not sure why would coaches who want their programs to be recognized for the good work, that they would be swayed by the reputation so much. I think it's a disservice to many players who are not at the top programs. How can coaches look at those players and tell them that hard work and good results are not always rewarded.

I'm actually curious to see how Penn State's loss affects their rank. If they are ranked any better than #4 It would be unfair in my opinion. Guess we'll see! Part me feels like if a random program had Stanford's exact record right now they'd be lucky to be in the top 15, let alone top 10. But I still think Stanford is a top 10 team.

In my opinion ASU is the number 2 team in the country. They are 15-0 with 4 ranked wins. 3 of their last 5 wins are against top 16 opponents and two of those opponents are in the current top 10. Why are people not sold on this team? They are good and still flying under the radar.

I think that everyone will see that they can be ranked that high once they are able to win against top teams on the road. 3 of their 4 wins against ranked teams were @ ASU and the win at Colorado State was good but CSU isn't as good as they used to be. They will definitely have a test this week as they head to Washington. Hopefully they can come out on top and break into the Top 4.
