Crimes played great. It's a shame that none of her teammates are playing at her level. Mazzarella made she poor decisions and some bad sets. There were a several times when she had Crimes in the front row and she had the opportunity to set Crimes, but instead, Mazzarella either tried some unsuccessful dumps or set to someone else who got roofed.
Uhart came was subbed in for game 4. From what I have seen of her from last year till now, I don't think she is a very effective middle for LBSU at this point in her career.
Looks like Crimes has to wait for all her teammates to catch up to her.

it really pisses me off when the Beach loses games like this. There is just no way to justify it.
If they are going to lose a lame ass game like this, at least make it be a non-conference match.

Besides Crimes, I don't think any of LBSU's hitters have much confidence in their games. Even Miramontes, with as much experience as she does, did not play very well. The blocking and defense was porous. It took LBSU a game and a half to get Trisha White under control. Most of Kelly Wing's kills could have been dug, but the defense wasn't there. They even served out of rotation.

Congrats to UCI Big West is getting crazy --- CSUN is to be watched also
Passing and setting seem to be a problem for both Beach and Gauchos. It takes a good close pass to have a quick good set and they are some times rare

We handled all of their jump serves quite easily, it was just he other stuff(easy stuff) that we just didn't pass well

Yeah, that's the weird thing... We go from a game like against San Diego (who isn't a bad team at all), where our blocking was perfect, defense was absolutely great - to a game like this, where we can't do ANYTHING... Passing is definitely what messes everything up... Every game we've lost in the pyramid was due to bad passing - which didn't allow us to run the offense... I guess you can say it's youth - unpredictability - everything... Our defense is usually pretty dang good...Especially this year... It looks so much better than the last 2 years... I guess not tonight... Robert is correct - there's NO EXCUSE to play like that... And from my observation, Heather Hetzer, Robin, etc usually are very very good... Obviously that was not the case tonight... Oh well - brush it off and take out our frustration by beating the living crap out of Division 1 wannabe UC Davis... GO BEACH!!! GO BEACH!!!

I'm glad to see UCI putting it all together again like earlier in the season and getting back to their winning ways. The Big West is turning into a real brawl with 5 teams within a game of each other.

Interestingly, with all the talk of LBSU not playing well on the road after lots of home cooking, a legitimate criticism, it should be noted that while looking at UCI's schedule and results, the Eaters have won all of their home matches, and lost all of their road matches.
I thought we looked lethargic from the outset. We lost a lot of points in the rotations when Alexis was on the bench. Someone suggested the other middle, Mariko Crum, wasn't 100%. I don't know for sure, but I do know she didn't play well, and was eventually replaced by Uhart.
Irvine has a much more veteran lineup than LB does, and it showed. Kelly Wing was money. She's one of those players who has the ability to take bad sets and put them down anyway. Helluva player, and fun to watch... when she's beating up on someone else.

What a complete player she is! She was passing nails and taking half the court, and still able to transition out to hit the ball from anywhere. Irvine had serious passing issues as well- but since Wing was passing half the court, it wasn't as devastating as Beach's problems.

To PSQ33 - this is NOT the match to use a barometer... They're way too inconsistent to use one match... especially one as ugly as that...
When the passing goes bad, so does everything else...
A barometer match would be against San Diego... We hadn't seen that type of blocking and defense in a long long time... That was PROGRESS...
And Natalie Uhart was injured - perhaps she's not 100% yet...
GO BEACH!!!

Perhaps the San Diego match is what LBSU COULD be ...
and perhaps this match is the TRUE barometer of where they are now ...

Perhaps the San Diego match is what LBSU COULD be ... and perhaps this match is the TRUE barometer of where they are now ... They've had many more good matches than bad of late. Don't forget that LB has also beaten Utah at home, and Northridge on the road. Most of the time, they are showing definite progress. But, when they're bad, they're BAD.

Is that really that weird for such a young team to have some games that just seem out of character from the other games they play?
