BS. Six Titles in Eight years. And they beat the best of the rest in all those Final Fours. But they always had the easiest road to the Final Four until this year. When they face stiffer competition prior to the Final Four guess what, NO Final Four appearance.
Even more stupid than your first comment. Just 2 years ago beat Stafford in regional final.

I've read many idiotic posts on VT over the years, but I honestly can't remember one more idiotic than this.

In his post game quotes last night, Coach Shoji was as humble, and proud, as could be. A really, really classy guy, and program. Big congrats to the Wahine (which the PA announcer pronounced "WA He Knee") and good luck. Thank you. But so is Coach Russ, he is one of the nice guys in women's collegiate volleyball, he and Dave have been friends for as long as they've been head coaches, always supporting each other throughout the years. As a Wahine fan, I know Penn State will just reload next year. I'm happy that the wahine won, and this is their first victory over the Nittany Lions in 6 or 7 tries.

I haven't seen Penn State play in a couple of weeks. The passing was bad, but I expected that from what I have read here. I was surprised by a couple of things: How slow their floor defense is. Seemed like they were all surprised every time the ball was hit, and didn't make a move until the ball hit the ground. Pierce was better than most but still slow. How Hawaii dominated the net play. I'm used to seeing the PSU front line jump higher than everyone else. But Hawaii touched many, many balls PSU hit, making for easy digs, and Hawaii seemed to hit over the PSU block with ease. And through the block with ease. Penn State couldn't close the block much of the night. Credit good passing and serve receive which kept Hawaii in system much of the night. Yes. That last point is much more to the point than the above ones. Same as the last Nebraska-PSU match, PSU's block was pourous, which can make the defense look helpless. Some of this is due to weak serving on PSU's part. What dumbfounded me most from PSU this year is the lack of team moxie--to take a punch and come back swinging. Plenty of past PSU teams swung often enough from out of system, but they were able to score consistently even when everyone in the gym knew where the ball was going. Not so this year. But let's face it--although most teams lose valuable players to graduation each year, what PSU lost in the last 2 years was enormous. And with two of the four classes left unable to produce much at all that could contribute meaningfully on the court, that leaves a lot to provide between the Soph & senior classes. Part of the tinkering going on all year speaks to the unusual lack of legit depth this team had--that and the fact that replacing both the points and the outright fear that Hancock provided proved too much.

I've read many idiotic posts on VT over the years, but I honestly can't remember one more idiotic than this. well, it's only partially idiotic. just look at the first two rounds - LMU upset Stanford, Hawaii toughest match was they almost got jousted by TCU 1st round. Penn State deserves the titles/recognition. but at the same time, the yearly cakewalks 1st few rounds make the path easier relative to what other teams have to deal with & Penn State this year got ousted by an unseeded team - as we know RPI is the best system - case in point we know Hawaii is about the 25th best team in the country, correct?? or is that idiotic?!

If I may take a quote from Jim Leahy: " Excuse me while I kiss the sky!"Wasn't that quote actually taken from the lyrics of Jimi Hendrix' song "Purple Haze?" As a small aside, it's one of the most famous misheard lyrics of all time. Many people thought he said, "Excuse me, while I kiss this guy."

The first few rounds? Are you kidding me? They have had some easy opponents in the first round, but that's it. "A few" usually means more than two. Are you saying Penn State has had easy regional semi-final and final matches?

oh brother, a few can mean a lot of things
really??, bottom line is you agree Penn State gets a yearly cake-walk 1st two rounds - end of story, sheeeeshh!!!!
Hawaii has to win SIX straight tough matches to win a NT, Penn State has to win FOUR - Penn State basically is playing in a different tournament every year that western teams have to play in
end of story!!! two bad bounces of the ball for Hawaii in the first two rounds, and Penn State is very possibly playing Minnesota in the Elite 8, and possibly on track for another NT - and if that doesn't illustrate the 'easier' path Penn State has had, I don't know what will
I don't get it with you Penn State people, congrats on the National Titles - so why not just acknowledge the 'rules' employed by the NCAA grease the skids for that program - because that's reality

You don't reach the heights that the Nittany Lion program has reached without consistently beating the best teams in collegiate volleyball. Volleyballfan99's views do not represent the views of the Hawaii fanbase. I would venture a guess that the overwhelming majority of Hawaii fans respect Penn State, that is why we are excited by what Hawaii was able to do. It was a down year for the Nittany Lions by the standards set forth by other Penn State teams but when I looked on Penn State's side of the court, I saw great experienced players like Courtney and Whitney and talented younger players like Washington, Frantti and Lee. Russ Rose was on the bench with Salima Rockwell- it's still Penn State. Their national titles can more than answer any critic.
Hawaii is playing at a very high level. Kahakai, Manu-Olevao and Higgins have really stepped up their game. Taylor, Greely, Magill and Maglio have been really good. Anderson and Koelsch have played well off of the bench- This is the Hawai'i team I was looking forward to seeing this year.

You do realize I wasn't making fun of the Wahine, hence my well wishes for all the teams going forward. I just remember watching how Northwestern celebrated when they beat PSU in 5 sets about mid-season; it was very similar to HI's celebration. We know you didn't mean it that way. Teams do celebrate like this in the tournament though. I agree that it may be a little different in the regular season. Thanks for the well wishes. Agreed.

Bottom line, you need to win matches. Penn State does that and Hawaii doesn't. The teams that Hawaii loses to are teams that Penn State beats. Except this year. This Penn State was a raging mess.
