I thought Duello looked more comfortable hitting from the left side than the right, which isn't surprising for a right handed hitter who hadn't played much on the right side coming into the season. I would still put her in the mix for next season, and it isn't like Saunders doesn't have potential too. At any rate, the Badgers project to be in pretty good shape on the pins, which is a good thing for a program that had to start the 5'6" Morey there a couple of times in 2013 (ultimately winning those matches, to be fair). The only concerns for a healthy group of pin hitters are that there isn't an All-American there at this point and that they could use another consistently solid primary passer. With the competition to spur people and provide credible practice opposition, I think that an off season and fall camp of work could help increase the production there, which was part of a big win streak already.

it helped Gillis tremendously as well as she took off after she no longer served regularly so it was a great contribution to the team. For some reason, I had not made this connection before, but it makes sense. That serve seemed to really weigh on Gilly during the first half of the season. Focusing on hitting really seemed to make a difference.

Just having meaningful spring practices/ open gym sessions with enough players to scrimmage is going to make this group much better! The slow start & missed connections from early 2015 will be a thing of the past.

Yes, the only thing we really need to figure out at the team level is backrow assignments and who will take second ball if LC gets the first. That's pretty trivial. I imagine they may try to add some new wrinkles. My sense is that they spend most of the spring really working with individual players. Duello especially will really benefit from this. One of the reasons I'm a little doubtful that Haggerty will start from day one is because she will be competing with Kriskova, Duello, Bates and Gillis after they have spent a good spring building up their individual play. Molly won't have that level of preparation. We'll see.

I am sitting not too far from the NE band and the all Americans walked by and are standing by the band watching. The look on Carlini's and face says a lot. Although not sure if the thoughts are about this year or next. Probably both. Nelson there too.

Probably the closest she'll get to a collegiate championship match again. I certainly wouldn't say that, Wisconsin is going to be good next year. I have them as one of my preseason favorites to win it all.

Hardly, IMO they're in the shadows of Nebraska, Texas, Florida, and probably Stanford. They're only starter lost is Morey, keep every other starter, gain a top 5 recruit in Haggerty, and still have Carlini. I think they're going to be good, really good.

And the badgers were already pretty good.

And the badgers were already pretty good. Well now we can say they beat the national champion pretty convincingly on their home court.

One thing that has to get better is the service game. I imagine that will be focus in off season. If there is one thing that this team did not do as well as others by the end of the season, it was to get dependable pressure on serve receive. That is what really made the difference against Florida.

Yes. Duello just needed to be exposed to big-time situations, gain confidence, and adjust to the speed of the game; now she just needs reps. If she keeps pushing herself could really surpass Kriskova. Krushkova has a big arm and a variety of shots, but lacks consistency, like the rest of our OHs, will be no doubt focusing on it during spring and summer. I'm not sure if Duello will ever really be successful at Wisconsin. She's not too athletic or jumps real high. From what I've seen she's more successful with a slower set and uses her height to get kills not necessarily her vertical. I wouldn't say Foecke is that great an athlete but look what a tall, hard hitter can do.

I was thinking the exact same thing, she doesn't get over the block but hits the angles and mostly just hits hard. Just like big B from Texas who is not athletic but has an amazing arm. It works. I also agree we need to work on serving. I'd love to see more jump floaters and not simply floaters and I don't need see Lolipops again, ever.

Not only is this comment lacking in class, it also makes no sense since 1) she will almost certainly be in the same position next year as an AA, and 2) the badgers will probably be significantly improved next year, with much greater depth at all positions, and will have as good a shot at the final four as at any time during her time at Madison. Next year will be interesting. Can't wait to see the new schedule.
