hey guys, i'm trying to watch last night's match between USD vs Santa Clara. however, they mistakenly uploaded a basketball game instead You are right. Last year, the WCC left the replay up for a couple of days. This year you have to catch it in the first 24 hours to replay it, and they definitely screwed this one up. You could try their contact email and see if they can give you a link: wccfeedback@sportslabs.com

Stanford is scheduled to continue hosting the next two rounds, so I'm sure Santa Clara is thrilled to be playing just 15 miles from their home field. Tough day for the Cardinal yesterday.

Portland is up 2-0 over Pacific and up 17-14 in the third set. Making their case for a third place conference finish. Pacific has really been in something of a skid the second half of the season.

From watching a lot of the other teams in the WCC, SD, BYU, Gonzaga, Perpperdine, even St. Mary's the last time they played them and you see players with chemistry, motivation, personality. I think you look at Pacific, they have no chemistry, no personality, out of the 3 freshman i think the middle fleming has been the biggest impact, she is always talking, looks motivated, libero is good, OPP and Outside besides elman(who is hitting mid .100's) its like watching grass grow. Coach does not change anything to create a spark, even when the season is on the line like they had at Pepperdine, and St, Mary's they had to win...they have lost 6 in a row...my .02

I think that there are a couple of issues in play at Pacific. Pacific's setting has of late been pretty tough to watch. I think Shelton's hitting at OPP has been good until today's match but the setting has been really spotty. She's been double contacting perfect passes multiple times a match. Unfortunately, they also aren't getting enough out of Elman this season. She has been a 4-year starter and is having statistically her least productive season. As their only playing senior and captain, it would be tough to sub her out. She provides a lot in the back row, just hasn't had many effective matches this season, hitting only .170. Their other hitters, especially Baptista and the middles have been very good. They are a very young team and will only lose one player. Their freshman have impressed me and are getting a lot of playing time, so hopefully once the setting is more consistent things will improve going forward.

I didn't see the Portland-Pacific match, but looking at the box score, Portland played an amazing match. They had only 3 hitting errors in the entire match! Troutman had 13 kills no errors, Pukis had 12 kills 1 error, Savoca and Sullivan had 7 and 5 kills with no errors, Markwith went 3/1/4, and the setter had an error. For the whole match! They also had 8 blocks to Pacific's one. Pacific committed 17 hitting errors, although it looks like Baptista, Fleming, Feldsher and Wine played well. Lexi Elman has had a tough season, although they have still tried to ride her most matches. I am just more and more impressed with Crouch's coaching of this Portland team which is now 17-12 on the season and 10-7 in conference.

This week's RPI has BYU at #8 and San Diego at #13.
LMU is down to 65, Gonzaga at 80, Pacific at 84, Portland at 88, and everyone else over 100. This has really ended up being a down year for the WCC. I remember a point last season where all of the WCC teams were inside the top 100 RPI. Sigh.
San Diego and BYU remain tied for first place in the conference, with BYU set to play at LMU Tuesday and San Diego set to play at Pepperdine. I expect both teams will come away with a win. Both have low enough RPI that it should only be bragging rights for whichever team gets the automatic qualifier bid. Unfortunately, both teams are now outside of the top 4 seeds, but both should be able to host the first two rounds. Hopefully next year the WCC will get back to sending 4 teams to the tournament.
