San Diego had an RPI of 13 this week, and just lost to the #115 RPI team. I'm not sure how far that's going to drop them, but it seems a lot more iffy now. Especially with their loss to Portland (RPI #88) a couple of weeks ago. We need trojansc and his bracketology to know. If the season ended right now and no more games were played - San Diego would be "tied" for RPI at 16 with Michigan. (.6492) Usually the #'s i have are .0005 +/ so they are accurate but not 100%. This comes due to rounding issues with large #'s due to RPI. Things are hard to predict because the other teams have to play their games first. San Diego and BYU don't have any other matches. BYU, on the other hand, has will be seeded, and maybe VERY high. I need a little help from bluepenquin, but I think BYU finishes with a better RPI than Florida AND Missouri, even if the Gators and Tigers win out. This could give BYU a seed as high as #5. If I had to predict it as of now - BYU gets a #7 seed and San Diego is unseeded and sent to UCLA (Is it hot right now in Hawaii? Cause if I think they're sweatin)

If it doesn't go to Lisa Kramer, I could see a case for Amy Boswell. She is second in conference in blocks only to Jasmine Gross(Pepperdine), but is getting about 3 kills a set and has the WCC 4th-best hitting %. Kramer gets a lot of kills, but I don't know why she isn't playing 6-rotations. Maybe injury issues? Who knows. Thanks for the seeding analysis. I have a hard time not seeing Kramer get the POY. 4.21 kills/set, .301 hitting percentage from the pins (highest of any WCC pin hitters, if you count Schad primarily as a MB), 4.41 points/set. The ability to change matches by just crushing balls through the block. She was named POW three times this season. I would put Boswell in second place. Neither of them play back row. Kramer has hit some pipe sets, but SD has three very good "littles", so I think they do better as a team with the littles keeping all the balls in play. I'm going to miss seeing Boswell's unbridled joy and little skippy dance when she gets a block, though. Hope both of these teams have a long run in the tournament.

Kansas will finish ahead of BYU if they win @ Baylor on Saturday - otherwise BYU finishes ahead of them. Either Washington or UCLA has a chance of finishing ahead of BYU.

The final WCC Player of the Week (and a half): wccsports.com/video/5835f10ee4b0ed45ccd4aad6SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has named its Volleyball Player of the Week for November 23, 2016. This is the final weekly honor of the 2016 season. WEST COAST CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – AMY BOSWELL, SR., MB – BYU Senior middle blocker Amy Boswell helped No. 10 BYU women’s volleyball to three road wins over the week to collect the outright West Coast Conference title for a third-consecutive season. It is the second straight weekly accolade for Boswell, who was named to the WCC All-Academic squad for the third straight season on Monday. Against San Francisco, she was nearly flawless – collecting a match-high 16 kills with just one hitting error for a .577 clip. She also added four solo blocks, second-most all-time in the BYU rally-scoring era. Then, against Santa Clara, Boswell added 13 kills on a .375 clip and had a match-high six blocks. To finish off the week at Loyola Marymount, she collected 15 kills on a .314 hitting percentage. On the week, Boswell averaged 3.39 kills per set, a .412 clip, 4.19 points per set while adding six solo blocks and five block assists. Also Nominated: Morgan Douglass, Gonzaga; Jasmine Gross, Pepperdine; Sarah Sponcil, Loyola Marymount; Hannah Troutman, Portland; 2016 WCC Volleyball Player of the Week 11/23 – Amy Boswell, BYU 11/14 – Amy Boswell, BYU 11/7 – Jamie Lea, Loyola Marymount 10/31 – Jasmine Gross, Pepperdine 10/24 – Lisa Kramer, San Diego 10/17 – Hannah Troutman, Portland 10/10 – Ashlyn Fleming, Pacific 10/3 – Lisa Kramer, San Diego 9/26 – Lauren Schad, San Diego 9/19 – Sarah Sponcil, Loyola Marymount 9/12 – Lisa Kramer, San Diego 9/5 – Mary Lake, BYU 8/29 – Kirsten Mead, Santa Clara

For the past few years, the POY has come from the team that won the conference, which might suggest that Boswell would be named this year. But I still like her as Defensive POY and Kramer as POY.
In 2015, BYU won the conference, Alexa Gray was POY, Boswell was Defensive POY, Pepperdine's Tarah Wylie was FOY. (Gray was first team AA)
In 2014, BYU won the conference, Alexa Gray was POY, Whitney Young-Howard was Defensive POY , Santa Clara's Kirsten Mead was FOY. (Jennifer Hamson was first team AA and Gray was 2nd team)
In 2013, San Diego won the conference, USD's Chloe Ferrari was POY, LMU libero Betsi Metter won her 3rd straight Defensive POY award, BYU's Young-Howard was FOY. (Ferrari was 2nd team AA, Gray was 3rd team AA)
In 2012, BYU won the conference, BYU's Jennifer Hamson was POY, Metter was DPOY, Alexa Gray was FOY. (Hanson was 1st team AA, Gray was HM)
In 2011, Pepperdine won the conference, Pepperdine's Kim Hill was POY, Metter was DPOY, Pepperdine's Samantha Cash was FOY. (Hill was 1st team AA)

Ok so USD is facing Baylor a.k.a Katie Staiger in the first round with a possible match with UCLA in the second round. USD has been on a bit of a downward trend so I hope they can get their act together and play well in the tournament because I could see them making a run to the sweet 16!
BYU has a first round match against Princeton, which they should win, but their second round match is against Utah. Utah beat BYU earlier in the year AT BYU so that could be a potential upset.
Excited to see these teams play in the tournament!

Utah lost their last 3 Pac-12 matches against Washington, Arizona and Colorado, so hopefully they are in a bit of a downward trend themselves, where BYU is looking pretty strong in their final matches. I think BYU is playing much better now than in the pre-conference when they lost in 5 at home to Utah. Go Cougars!
San Diego...I would favor them to come out on top after a fight over Baylor, and hope I they get a very thrilling 2nd round matchup against UCLA. It's unfortunate that they lost that last match to Pepperdine and were unseeded. I think meeting UCLA in the second round is a match that neither team would have wanted so early in the tournament. Go Toreros!

Congratulations to all the honorees. The biggest surprise in my book is giving Sarah Sponcil Conference Defender of the Year. I don't think anyone had mentioned her as a possibility, but I think it's a great choice.

This is fascinating. Sponcil as Defensive POY, rather than the traditional libero or blocker. She would also be utility POY if they had that. She was pretty much the do-everything player for Loyola Marymount, but unquestionably lays her body on the line on every play to keep balls off the ground and back into play. I love the pick of Brent Crouch for Coach of the Year. He has really been impressive in his short tenure at Portland. (The video mentions Portland finished in a tie for 4th place, but it was a 3-way tie for 3rd place in conference.) I think Kramer and McKenna Miller were probably unanimous picks by the coaches for POY and FOY. So many stud freshman players this year. I am a little surprised to see Santa Clara libero Taylor Laugero and Pepperdine OH Hannah Frohling left off of the freshman team, though. First team:Emmy Allen, Gonzaga Sr OH Amy Boswell, BYU Sr MB Jasmine Gross, Pepperdine Fr MB Nikki Hess, Santa Clara Sr OH Hunter Jennings, San Diego Sr Libero Lisa Kramer, San Diego Sr OH Jamie Lea, Loyola Marymount Sr Opp McKenna Miller, BYU Fr OH Lauren Schad, San Diego Sr MH Sarah Sponcil, Loyola Marymount Jr OH Hannah Troutman, Portland Jr OH Whitney Young Howard, BYU Sr MB (6 OH's, 4 middles, 1 Opp, 1 libero, 0 setters 8 Seniors, 2 Juniors, 2 Freshmen) Honorable Mention:Kaity Edwards, San Diego JR MB; Lexi Elman, Pacific SR OH; Ashlyn Fleming, Pacific FR MB; Kristen Gengenbacher, San Diego JR Setter; Katrina Gotterba, Pacific JR Libero; Mary Lake, BYU FR Libero; Kirsten Mead, Santa Clara JR Setter; Alexis Salmons, Saint Mary’s JR MB; Katie Sullivan, Portland SR MB; Tarah Wylie, Pepperdine Soph MB All-Freshman Team:Kristyna Adamcikova OH, San Francisco Ashlyn Fleming, MB, Pacific Jasmine Gross MB, Pepperdine Mary Lake LIB, BYU McKenna Miller OH, BYU Savannah Slattery OH, Loyola Marymount Cali Thompson S, Portland

I have to say I really like Crouch's humility also... portlandpilots.com/news/2016/11/28/volleyball-crouch-named-wcc-coach-of-the-year-while-three-pilots-earn-all-conference-honors.aspxPORTLAND, ORE. --- Portland volleyball's Brent Crouch was named the West Coast Conference Coach of the Year, while junior Hannah Troutman landed on the all-league first team to cap one of the most successful seasons in program history. Setter Cali Thompson also landed on the WCC All-Freshman Team and Katie Sullivan earned league honorable mention for the Pilots, who tied for third place in the conference. In just three seasons, Crouch has transformed the Pilot program. In another record-setting season on the Bluff, the Pilots posted a 17-13 overall record and a 10-8 slate in the WCC. Portland recorded a pair of victories over ranked opponents this fall, with both wins coming during league play against then-No. 11 BYU and at then-No. 7 San Diego, which was the highest ranked opponent ever defeated by the Pilots. This is the first Coach of the Year honor in Portland's program history. Portland's 17 wins are the most in a season since 1986, and their conference record is easily the best league mark since the Pilots began competing in the WCC in 1987. The previous best for WCC wins for the Pilots was eight, which came back in 1989. "I think the WCC has the best coaches in the country, and to be selected by them and to be among them is truly an honor," said Crouch." I have also been very fortunate to have a terific staff, and a fantastic group of student athletes, much of the credit goes to them. They allow me to lead, and what an honor!" ...

USD. Elite 8 this time around.
Why LA didn't think more of Lawless is beyond me. Why LA's setting coach is too occupied w HC duties is understandable.

paidlive USD - UCLA is a tough match to call. I've been trying to find a Toreros supporter to comment on this thread all year. Are you it? What advantages do you see in USD over UCLA? Back row is great for both teams, but Formico is a really special player. Kramer is the best pin hitter for either team when she is on. Schad and Edwards also have very high percentage hitting, especially on a slide, but UCLA's middles are very tall, and USD just lost a match to Pepperdine's tall middles. UCLA's outsides have the edge over San Diego's Fuller and Fayad. Both teams are currently running a 6-2 with plenty of front row hitting in every rotation. I guess my thought would come down to whether or not UCLA can stop Kramer, Schad and Edwards from scoring.

USD. Elite 8 this time around. Why LA didn't think more of Lawless is beyond me. Why LA's setting coach is too occupied w HC duties is understandable. San Diego has a pretty touch match in the first round. I've watched a LOT of Baylor volleyball. Staiger is so good, I hope USD has answers. Also, they have the best libero in the Big 12. They are sort of a one-woman machine, though.
