Did anyone watch the St Mary's game vs Gonzaga? I was looking at the box score and wondering - why didn't Emily Bible have any attacking numbers? And still no Sarah Chase? On a positive note, SMC is only losing one player (Lissera, Setter) so I am really hopeful for next year....

On a positive note, SMC is only losing one player (Lissera, Setter) so I am really hopeful for next year.... I didn't see the match, but looking at the box score, I'm going to hazard a guess that Payton Rund played OH (42 swings, the most of any player) and that Sienna Young (Freshman 5'11 OH) played Opposite (4 swings, 0 kills, 1 BA in 4 sets) and Bible played back row for Young. We can see if that's the case in their final match tomorrow night at Santa Clara. It's horrible for Saint Mary's to have a starter out with a concussion for the last 2 months of the season. I truly hope Sarah Chase comes back completely healthy next season.

SMC also lost starting freshman middle blocker Aubrey Pitts to injury in the same match. So they were without 1/3 of their starters after the first conference match, after a promising pre conference schedule. The Gaels could be formidable in 2017.

I remember saying that the announcers thought that Sarah Chase would be back around 3 weeks after the injury occurred, but she never came back. It really sucks because she also had a back injury at the end of her freshman year as well, leaving her with limited playing time at the last half of the season and sitting out the beach season. Hope she stays healthy in the next couple of years because SMC is going to be a force to be reckoned with in the next couple of years.

First off, apologies to the Pilots and Bulldogs fans, as I did not realize they played their final match last night in Portland. Gonzaga won the match in 5 sets: 17-25, 25-19, 22-25, 25-22, 15-11. Portland and Gonzaga both finish conference with 10-8 records. LMU is at 10-7, but plays BYU tonight, so there may potentially be a 3-way tie for 3rd place. Pacific is at 8-9 and should move to 9-9 and 6th place after playing USF tonight. Santa Clara, Pepperdine and Saint Mary's are in a three-way tie for seventh place, but Santa Clara and Saint Mary's play each other, so one will move ahead. Pepperdine plays San Diego and will likely drop that match and tie for 8th. Final Regular Season WCC matches are tonight, and the WCC Conference Champion (and Automatic Qualifier) will be decided. 7:00 pm Saint Mary's at Santa Clara Video: wccsports.com/game-center/578d572fe4b0d111ecd244f9/ Live stats: stats.statbroadcast.com/broadcast/?id=1411907:00 pm Pacific at San Francisco Video: www.wccsports.com/game-center/578d574be4b0d111ecd2451c/ Live stats: stats.statbroadcast.com/broadcast/?id=1380417:00 pm San Diego at Pepperdine. Head to head: BYU and San Diego split regular season meetings Sets won in head to head competition. San Diego and BYU each posted home sweeps. Total number of points scored in head to head competition. BYU 20 23 23 | 25 25 27 = 143 USD 25 25 25 | 16 22 25 = 138 BYU would secure automatic NCAA bid if both BYU and USD win AND if both teams lose since LMU (10-7) is higher in the conference standings than Pepperdine (6-11). Sole Possession of 2016 WCC Regular Season Championship BYU would win the automatic berth and sole possession of the WCC regular season title only with a win at LMU coupled by a San Diego loss at Pepperdine. Pepperdine beat San Diego in 4 sets. BYU is down one set to LMU (16-25). A strange night in the WCC
Pacific swept USF as expected. Santa Clara is up 2-0 on Saint Mary's and up 18-8 in the third, closing in on a sweep

San Diego had an RPI of 13 this week, and just lost to the #115 RPI team. I'm not sure how far that's going to drop them, but it seems a lot more iffy now. Especially with their loss to Portland (RPI #88) a couple of weeks ago. We need trojansc and his bracketology to know.

This has been an exceptional year for freshman impact players in the WCC. Three different freshmen (none named McKenna Miller) won Player of the Week honors.
Who are your favorites for All-Freshman Team and FOY?
BYU - OH McKenna Miller is playing beyond her years and was a huge factor in BYU's win over LMU last night. She is second in the conference in points/set and kills/set. She has 4.04 kills/set, hitting .257, and has 51 blocks. Mary Lake, libero, is second in the conference with 4.5 digs/set and keeps some amazing shots off the ground. She was conference POW early in the season.
San Diego - Thana Fayad, OH, had 2.21 kills/set hitting .157 and 27 blocks. Setter Anna Newsome had 5.17 assists/set in a 6-2 system.
Pepperdine - MB Jasmine Gross had 1.94 kills/set, hitting .293. Her 154 blocks are a Pepperdine single-season record. She was conference POW Oct. 31 after breaking Pepperdine's single-match block record with 15. She leads the conference with 1.34 blocks/set. OH Hannah Frohling had 2.49 kills/set, hitting .183, and 52 blocks.
Loyola Marymount - OH Savannah Slattery has 3.27 kills/set, hitting .214, and 32 blocks. Setter Jessie Prichard finished the season running a 5-1 after fellow frosh setter Tess Reid was injured halfway through the season. Prichard finished the season with 8.47 assists/game. MB Sascha Dominique is a Redshirt Freshman (can't remember if they are eligible). She had 2.32 kills/set, hitting .304, and 50 blocks.
Santa Clara - Libero Taylor Laugero was 4th in conference with 4.28 digs/set. She also had 13 kills and 23 aces. Redshirt Freshman MB Taylor Odom had 1.16 kills/set hitting .223, and 107 blocks (5th in conference).
Pacific - MB Ashlyn Fleming had 2.4 kills/set, hitting .337 and added 109 blocks. She won POW honors in October. Her kill percentage is 5th in conference and blocks/set was 10th in conference. OH Emily Baptista had 2.99 kills/set, hitting .221 and added 50 blocks.
San Francisco - OH Tyna Adamcikova has 3.42 kills/set (8th in conference) hitting .165 and is 7th in conference in points/set, without much of a supporting cast. She has 35 blocks, evenly split between solos and assists.
Portland - Setter Cali Thompson ran a 5-1, with 9.90 assists/set, second in conference. She also has 34 aces, 54 blocks and 35 kills (.184).
Gonzaga - MB Katelyn Oppio had 1.23 kills/set hitting .247, and 98 blocks.
Saint Mary's - MB Aubrey Pitts was injured before the halfway point of the season. At that time she had 1.63 kills/set hitting .228 and .78 blocks/set.
There were a number of other freshman who got time on the court, but weren't significant in impacting their teams this season. If I missed anyone, chime in.
My personal vote for which freshman made the biggest contribution to their team's success easily goes to BYU OH McKenna Miller. However, in a different year, anyone from this group could have been the top freshman.
Different opinions, anyone?

Stats on Cali Thompson were a little off. Finished the year with:
34 Kills (0.186), 1158 Assists (1st in WCC), 34 aces w/ 34 serv errors, 1 solo block & 53 block assists. Started every set of the season, never pulled off the court except for about 4 sets where they ran a 6-2 to counter height of a couple teams in pre-conference.

FOY will probably be McKenna Miller, with POY being Lisa Kramer and COY being Brent Crouch.

The Pilots website flipped the "Overall Statistics" chart with the "Conference Statistics" chart. I corrected the full season stats on my post.

If it doesn't go to Lisa Kramer, I could see a case for Amy Boswell. She is second in conference in blocks only to Jasmine Gross(Pepperdine), but is getting about 3 kills a set and has the WCC 4th-best hitting %. Kramer gets a lot of kills, but I don't know why she isn't playing 6-rotations. Maybe injury issues? Who knows.
