CAL POLY will upset Hawai'i at home. With the loss of Magill & Olevao the Lady Stangs will bushwhack the Wahines at MOTT. CAL POLY's freshmen class (5),...two seasons ago,...now juniors and a sophomore to-be will prove up to the challenge. GoStangs!!! Cal Poly stinks. Hawaii's only challenge will be trying to figure out where to go for dinner after the match. Too bad some people's ONLY virtue is their stupidity!

jake . You are true fan, and I like that. I was really rooting for Poly lastseason, and they had a fantastic turnaround season. Poly returns two great pin hitters, and a fantastic setter, so I definitely see them as one of top teams in the conference. Best of luck this season! I think the 'green' schools will be really good in 2016! Thanks Wiz, Recently, watched the video of last season's match between CAL POLY v. Hawai'i. And, it was Magill & Olevao doing most of the damage. Now,...they are gone. Yes, they return a lot of talent, but, banking on a more seasoned team CAL POLY. POLY will be undersized compared to the Wahines,...so,...ball control, solid serving and plenty of digs in the back court will be key. It's not going to be easy, but, very feasible. GoStangs!!!!It was Magill and Taylor. Olevao had a poor match against Poly at Poly. Magill is obviously a big loss because she was such a great blocker but Maglio and Mitchem are more dynamic attackers and more versatile on offense. Much remains to be seen but I believe Hawaii's middle tandem has the potential to be better than last year. Hawai'i returns a veteran team with the exception of one position. Poly has some good players, but they don't have enough horses to beat the Wahine.

I am hoping for another year of experience playing together for five of the six returning starters. Playing on POLY's Beach team under new coach and Olympian Todd Rogers. Taylor Nelson (junior-to-be) and Adlee Van Winden (sophomore-to-be),...key players already showing signs of All American stature. A supporting cast of Gruenewald and Greisen to keep the opposition guessing. CAL POLY lost Libero, Nicole Kessler, to graduation, but will replace her with experience,...Katherine Brouker and Bailey Roach. GoStangs!!!

Truly looks like all nine Big West Conference teams will show substantial improvement in 2016.

Hawaii, Cal Poly, Long Beach State, and UCSB will be good. And I'm hoping that everyone does well in each of their preseason schedules, that would really help our conference. I know UC Davis lost Squyres to graduation but they return Kendall Walbrecht who was fantastic last year, she will lead this years squad, they will have a big frontline. Irvine returns Kekauoha who led the Anteaters in kills as a freshman last year. Northridge has a very good incoming class. I'm excited about this upcoming season.

As with every season, the Wahine cannot expect to just show up to the match and win. If they are not totally focused, any Big West team can take them down. The talent of the other BW teams is there.

Its about time the BW bring it. Hawai'i and LBSU or CSUN and some random team cannot continue to carry the conference. I have witnessed so many incredible players come and go throughout the BW only to have teams hurt their individual efforts. There are so many talanted players and coaches that it baffles the mind when the season ends and the few teams are sitting at or near the top of the conference being the same two or three. I know for some players intimidation occurs when they play LBSU or UH, but what they need is to believe they can beat anybody at anytime. only then can the conference become more competitive. I wish the day when LBSU or UH becomes intimidated by UC Irvine, UC Davis or UC Fullerton.

Even though Hawaii is probably a top 6 team in the country, they may very well lose a match or two in conference. Gonna be some good teams that on a given night could upset...but make no bones about it that Hawaii is the real deal this coming season.....

I'm okay if Hawaii is always at the top, if the rest of the conference is better and Hawaii's has defeated those teams. What I hope is for the BW to be 4-5 teams ranked in the top 25 yearly but in order to do so, everyone else needs to 1) defeat ranked teams in their pre-conference and 2) if receiving an at-large to the NCAA, make it at least to the 2nd round or further, again, on a yearly basis. The BW of old had Hawaii, LBSU, Pacific, and UCSB that were ranked consistently in the top 25. I mean in 1999 Pacific made it to the Final Four, in 2000 UCSB challenged Hawaii for a Final Four birth, in 2001, LBSU was undefeated and in the championship match. But, from that point on, it's been only Hawaii who has been a consistent top 25 team.

This should be the most competitive BWC in a number of years.
Each of the nine teams are loaded with talented new, returner and transfer players.
Too early to say how much better each team will be this season.
Getting some quality wins during the OOC segment is important. Not just time to get ready for conference play,...it's time to get wins.
Beating,>>>>Rice, BYU, Stanford, Nevada, Alabama, Duke, UNLV, Baylor, CSU, Pepperdine, and Wyoming, just to name a few, will fuel the fire.

One big factor in helping make the BW a power conference is making football a mandatory sport. So I would add-on the required women's sports to be able to add-on another men's sport like football. Not sure I know the formula to be in compliance with Title IX. Then the BW could maybe have its own tv channel or perhaps have a major tv partner deal which would increase recruiting in all sports. I know the BW contracts with the Fox Sports Network currently.
If money is an issue, change or exempt the individual state laws regarding higher public education to allow private sponsorship of college athletics. I know Hawai'i has strict laws regarding the procurement process for UH. As proven elsewhere, the marketing potential of the BW can be a huge draw for Big Business. Football is key in order for the BW to compete with the Power conferences.
Imagine the potential for homegrown talent to remain at home if football became a reality for most BW schools. Hawai'i is the only BW school with football.
I know its wishful thinking, but the landscape of College Athletics will continue to change and the BW could become obsolete if it doesn't do something. This conference has some of the best public schools around so I think its worth supporting.

Regarding the lack of football for the BW, is money the the major reason? Just curious.

Long Beach, CSUF, CSUN and UCSB once all played football. But, couldn't make it work financially and dropped the sport,...probably to add soccer.
