Of course everyone is certainly entitled to their own opinion. But, like I said before college D1 sports is big business. And, winning a MVB, soccer, WVB, baseball and softball championships are great and boost a conference's bragging rights, however, they are merely 'window dressing'. And, for the most part most people couldn't tell you who won what from year to year in minor sports' programs. The CAL POLY and UHawai'i MBB teams' wins in the NCAA in 2014 and 2016 were huge. They will/have increased the coffers for each school in the conference significantly. We are probably talking $millions. The objective here is to start getting more than one Big West Conference school into the MBB NCAA's each year. If, getting that done means funding 10-15% more of a school's athletic budget for MBB>>>do it! Once the conference starts getting two or more schools in the NCAA Tournament, there will be that much more funds available for minor sports' programs. Right now you are putting the cart before the horse. Again>>>ECON 101.statista.com/statistics/219586/revenue-returned-to-its-members-by-the-ncaa/ Conference Revenue from MBB NCAA Tournament... ......$Millions Conference Revenue from WVB NCAA Tournament........$0.0(?) Conference Revenue from Baseball NCAA Tournament...$0.0(?) If, conferences are getting revenue from the NCAA for participating in minor sports' programs post season play, I am not aware. so just to be clear....you are advocating re-distributing about $50k from each of 16 Cal Poly sports to their Men's Basketball program to puruse MBB glory & money - and advocating that those sports each take away about 2 full schollies from those teams (including WVB, and btw which 2 players should not have their WVB schollie renewed next year?) and that money go to ?? pay increase to Callero, should he get a $200k raise after 3 stright 7th place finishes or should Poly go out and dangle $750k a year to get a better coach? his assistants each get a $50k raise? and Cal Poly provide a $50k guarantee to get, say, Creighton or Butler, or a couple other schools to come to Poly? please provide the details Jake!!! btw, before you go further, how much is each Big West school (& Cal Poly) getting from the NCAA win in 2014 - do you really think it's millions? just curious! First, I wouldn't give up schollies, but, rather a second or third assistant coach, reduce travel expenses, etc. (These minor programs can/should sponsor fund raising activities during the off-season to supplement their budgets.) NOTE: Every school seems to have two or three favorite minor programs that do well. Those programs at the discretion of their school would be allowed to avoid budget cuts. BTW, I was referring to both years, 2014 & 2016. I don't have any figures, but, quite sure it will be more than a "one and done" scenario. (Schools do not receive their $$$ for the current season until the preceding season.)

The Big West should really push both men and women soccer but should really prioritize mens soccer. All schools should sponsor the sport and find the funding for a quality soccer stadium, locker rooms, and other related amenities. This sport will become one of the majors and the conference needs to keep moving forward and have the facilities in place to compete with the BCS schools when they make their push in mens soccer. Need to have an established and mature program to fight off the big boys.

That is the same logic that the Big West teams used to drop football.... how has that worked out? Have to have a long term approach and not just what is happening right now.

Thought that was what I was saying! Let's keep FB out of this discussion. It's another can of worms.

With the success of the Women's national team, soccer needs to be one of the major sports in the big west. Hawaii needs to get on the ball and get a men's program going. Hawaii women have a great coach, but they need to rebuild that program to be competitive. Which they can. But it will take awhile. I believe we just got an all B1G second team transfer coming in this year. That's a good start.

Stopped by the LBSU camp last week and watched the returning players warm up and play each other between sessions. Most improved players appear to be setter Missy Owens and left Megan Kruidhof.

That's what I am talking about. If its about money, why not entertain the private/public relationship? Situation is different today then when they stopped football. With the stipends schools can provide for athletes, this is a great way to generate money. Not sure I follow your explanation. You are talking about a school spending $millions just to provide the necessary scholarships to put student-athletes on the field. Add all the coaches' salaries and equipment. Some of you football nuts might want to check up on the required criteria that the NCAA has put in place before any school that does not currently have D-1 football can even think about adding the sport. Stadium size for starters puts most cities out of the game...just not feasible to add it...what we now have is the best it will ever be..plus the big 5 conferences are killing off everyone else...isn't that the American way after all??

No one said we didn't know what it took. The point I Was Making, was that the facts are the facts. As the power conferences change and probably grow, you have to be proactive to be ready if you want your program to be a part of the future or you may become obsolete. How the midmajors choose to be relevant is something to discuss now. If the power conferences want to come and knock on the Big West door, then you could see cherry picking as they see fit and the BW could be a dead conference. To me. football, is a pretty looking carrot for some power conferences.

The Big West Conference is not going to add foosball anytime in the near future.
The concentration is Men's Basketball & Women's Volleyball>>>front and center.

Anybody with video footage of practices from around the Big West conference?
Really excited about this upcoming season. Especially with Hawaii, Long Beach State, Cal Poly, etc.
