Definitely Mireya Luis. She is the ultimate phenom. At the age of 17, she won best spiker award at the 1985 world cup over the likes of Lang Ping. Her vertical was ridiculous and arm swing was perfect. Can you imagine a high school freshman winning best spiker at a major event. She was in the same rotation with a much weaker setter/attacker (Josephina O' Farrill who had less than 5 attempts per match) and a much weaker middle blocker (either Latamblet/Santamaria) but her opponents simply cant stop her.
After 1996, people thought she lost her starting position to Ruiz but that is not true. The coaches decided to rest her and even if Ruiz was a drop off, the Cubans were so much better than everyone else that it simply did not matter. Ruiz was struggling at the 98 World Championship finals, Luis came in for her and still proved she was a notch better than Ruiz and Bell.
Remember Cross Battle role as a player coach on the 2004 olympics team. Luis was selected to be on the 2000 team not simply because of her experience. IF they really need her to play, she can still contribute.
I dont think we will ever see any player like Luis, she may not be the best all around player but her best skill is so much better than everyone else's

Tita Ahuna, for the success she's had at several levels.
I know I am to only choose one. But I needed to add another one, which is Wiz. I don't know any other poster here that's a former player that has a National Championship ring.

Check out Melissa Vargas, who idolized Mireya growing up, she's just as intense. i like Vargas, can't wait to see what happens with cuban vball...but she's no Luis. nobody is tho, probably the biggest vert in the history of the sport. 5'9 and reached 11'2. and that arm. Vargas... At 16 years old is not Mireya Luis. I do believe Vargas will be the world's best OPP in about 5 years.

Francesca Piccinini - Because I love her mechanics, is a great player, and she's gorgeous! Logan Tom - Well because she's Logan Tom Rachel Holloway - She is my favorite setter of all time and the reason I became a Husker fan! Nellie Spicer - Always loved watching her frog-like jump setting. She really made her team better in every single way at UCLA, it's a shame she couldn't get a starting position with team USA. Roberta Holehouse - The most underrated libero of all time. I still think to this day that she's the best libero in college volleyball history, okay maybe behind Natalie Hagglund, but not that far behind.

Mary Jo Peppler. Has anyone mentioned her? I'm prejudiced because she's close to my age, and I had an opportunity to play with her because her brother used to play "noon ball" with me. She probably didn't hit as hard as some named here (She was about 6', I think), but had better all around skills than any of them. She also won the first women's super athlete challenge. I think she was supposed to throw a softball towards a judge. She threw it over his head and over the fence behind him.

My top 5 would have to be: Stacey Gordon-Excluding Misty May, inch for inch Stacey Gordon might be the best collegiate player ever. Her season is 2004 has to be regarded as one of the very best ever. Her statistics were insane (kills, hitting %, aces, digging) and she packed so much heat every swing. Her jump serve was devastating and she was a standout player in the backrow. If she played for a better program or had a stronger supporting cast, I think she'd be consistently be mentioned as one of the very best collegiate players ever. As a young player Stacey led her team to tournament titles, provincial championships, and national finals in Canada. As a collegiate player she was BIG10 POY twice, BIG10 kills record holder, national co-POY, and as a pro helped Ezacibasi win two national titles in Turkey and 2 national titles in Caguas, Puerto Rico. Not a bad career I'd say.

I got to play with her quite a bit when she coached at Utah State. Talk about intimidating. She was just on another level than anyone. Someone mentioned Dana Burkholder. LOVED watching her. Sybeldon. Wish she would have played OH so I could have watched her in 6 rotations. The entire 76-77 USC team. Debbie Green, Debbie Landreth, Sue Woodstra especially. Again, on another level. Really enjoyed watching Macey Gardner since she was 14 years old.

If we're mentioning D'errico and Holehouse, I'd throw Walters in there, too. Really fun player to watch play.
And I'll second the votes for Gordon. Loved watching her on the court.
And Makare and Leslie at UW.

Flo Hyman, Debbie Green and the Iron Hammer (Lang "Jenny" Ping) were kinda cool, too! On the beach Linda Hanley and Kathy Gregory were pretty entertaining, as well.

Tom Selleck, of course.
Then, comes Wilt Chamberlain followed by C. Thomas Howell (Sideout), Peter Horton (Sideout), Val Kilmer (Top Gun), and last but not least, Tom Cruise (for playing beach volleyball in jeans in Top Gun).
