Need to give props to CC McGraw. All Tournament Team and she is only a sophomore. What a tremendous player.

Need to give props to CC McGraw. All Tournament Team and she is only a sophomore. What a tremendous player. Absolutely. I had only seen her one or two times prior to this and thought she was fantastic. There were several rallies in set 3 against Storm that she single-handedly kept Select in. I would not have had an issue with her being named MVP. She was that good. Minnesota's going to love having her in a few years.

I doubt it. I think she's a great player, glad she'll be in the pac 12, but senior aces is about potential, there are at least 5 players who will he rated higher than her...there are three exceptional setters in this class, of course sun, Hammons is a monster, butler can crush it. I agree. I do not actually think any of the 2017 setters are going to be the no.1 recruit though. I mainly say this because they are pretty unusual. The last one was LC and we know what kind of impact she had. If Hilley were the 2013 badger recruit, would she have had a similar impact? Would she have even beaten out CT for the setting position? I do not know. I am guessing it is going to follow the usual trend of being an outside. Probably sun, but I don't know. I feel like setters are hard to compare to hitters as far as college potential because they are generally the more polished players in high school, and they do depend a lot on the players around them. Basically what I am saying is setters HAVE to be super polished in order to be in the top 5 or 10, but hitters are either incredibly polished (ex. Hodson or haggerty) or a high ceiling (ex. lanier or alhassan). Setters basically have to be incredibly developed already in order to crack the top 10 it seems. Didn't Carlini and Collins both crack the top 10?

it always amazes me how much value fans place on the third contact even when we see year after year how equally valuable the first and second contacts are. not to mention the players who are often involved with the two of those three contacts. heck i think coaches often fall victim to this too.
yes so and so can hit the ball hard or so and so can really jump. but theres so much more to the sport than that.
(i am certainly aware of the main reason the third contact is considered so important -- it is often the last contact. but it doesn't exist all on its own. these players are not hitting off of a tee.)

Didn't Carlini and Collins both crack the top 10? You know they did. we should all know that carlini was the #1 recruit. This idea that setters aren' top 10 recruits is baseless, this past year both SSS and Poulter were top 10, Poulter #3, Carlni and Collins in 2013, Bugg and Strehlow in 2012, Mcneil and Moenoa in 2011. I do agree that hitters get far more attention, but I think a setter that is refined and shows a lot of potential will get the attention they deserve.

Will Hilley get evaluated on just setting, though? Although she sets for club and country and will in college, she's a pretty dynamic hitter and has made a number of underclassmen AA lists as All Around.

Tawa tends to rate players based on their potential college impact. So if she's going to set, she'll be primarily evaluated on her setting.

Need to give props to CC McGraw. All Tournament Team and she is only a sophomore. What a tremendous player. The same can and should be said for Claire Mosher. She's a sophomore setter for Milwaukee Sting 18 Gold, who also received All Tournament Team accolades!

She's a sophomore setter for Milwaukee Sting 18 Gold, who also received All Tournament Team accolades! Victoria Brisack graduating early really worked out nicely for more than one team. With Claire and Miranda splitting duties on the 15's last year, they had an excellent team. However, with Brisack's graduation and the need to find a setter for the 18's, Miranda and Claire were able to run 5-1's for both teams and Miranda has really taken off this year with the extra touches. It will be interesting next year to see what happens, Sting has a good setter on their current 17's team but nowhere near the level of Mosher/Wucherer. So will they have Claire set for the 17's in whatever form that team takes next year? Or go back to a 6-2 for this years 16's? A long way off to be sure but something that will be a very difficult decision to make.

Hammons needs to hit a ball with more pace before I consider her a top 5 recruit. Passing and blocking are great for an OH, where she hits the ball is great, but it will be even better when she hits the ball harder. Hammons hits the ball with plenty of pace. I just saw her last week at the JVA world Challenge against Top Select. For her age, she doesn't hit the ball any less hard than players like Burgess and Ruddins when they were HS, and they were top 5 OH's. I'm not saying Hammons will be a top 5 recruit, but I don't think lack of power will be the reason why she misses the top 5.

Having seen all three of those (Sting) setters play this year, next year is going to be very interesting however it pans out. All three are solid athletes who work really hard, and are great teammates. I don't envy the coach(es) who have to decide where those three pan out next year.
