I rep Stanford and I'm taking the field. There's way too many variables for 1 team to be the favorite over all the other D1 programs combined. Mathematically, you always take the field. I agree, but I voted for Stanford as a fan anyway.

The last 4 NCAA tournaments Freshmen have lead their team to either the finals or the championships, with less success the following year. I could see this freshman class winning one more down the road, but equally can see them not winning another championship.
UT will be too good next year, so good.

This wasn't a dominating season, this was a team that got hot at the right time. Who know what Hodson looks like when she comes back. Lutz to the middle? Vanjac to the bench? who knows. Lots of questions.
Besides, last year we KNEW this year was Nebraska's to lose, and they lost. 2013 Texas was only losing Sha'Dare McNeil and they were a lock - that got upset by Wisconsin in the semi's. I feel like I'm missing another really good example, but we do this all the time and Championships just aren't that easy.
Surviving a season, then winning 6 in a row is incredibly hard. That's what made that Penn State run so special. It's probably made easier that Stanford can earn the right to host the regionals but a lot can happen in 360+ days.

Stanford will be very good and could repeat if two things happen: Hodson comes back and is 100% by late November 2017. Kate Formico plays DS1 and covers the additional holes that will be in the Stanford block after the departure of Inky.

The Huskers won in 2006, had everyone back and getting (I think) Houghtelling back from injury. Everyone thought they were a "sure thing". But, like 2016, not so much.

Anyone else think Kansas will be strong next year? Payne and Havili both seniors.
I do see Stanford being strong too, obviously. Gray had the best setter performance in the tournament IMO, and she's only going to get better.

Lutz is an AA middle. I want her back there. Vanjak is a decent blocker and might hold down the right side quite nicely. Plummer and hodson go left. That's a team that gets it done. I disagree. I would rather keep Lutz on the right and have a middle that can close a block. Fitz and Inky closed so well, which put the defense in position to be successful

Stanford is different then those other teams mentioned. 4 freshman got them here. Imagine what they will look like next year and so on. Plus they have Lutz and Hodson still. I think it's fair to Be very very optimistic about the cards future.

Stanford wasn't even a top 4 team this year.
Maybe 5-8 best team
Winning national championship doesn't mean you are the best team.

People have a hard time understanding the best team doesn't always win.
