Anyone taking a stab at biggest upsets/surprises from the weekend?

I really would have liked to see the HBC play Adversity Purple. Although Adversity's best lineup destroyed everything in their path, and beat CVC who took out the HBC, I think Adversity HBC would have been very interesting and would put a test to Adversity's legitimacy. However, much congrats to the Adversity team and all others who received a bid. I am confused about the HBC hype. Except for the setter Garrett and opposite Alexander, they were not that impressive. They lost to CUVC, good team but not a big team, and Club 1 who is not close to being the best in the Midwest. I think HBC gets more wins by intimidation with all the cheering and taunting than actual talent.

HBC wasn't clicking at all & lost their confidence for sure but even on Day 1 - it appeared there was some overhype involved. In regard to the Midwest standings: - Adversity really separated themselves in Chgo & look like a college team at this point in time. - Club1 WBV went 9-1 & finished 9th & was 4rd best in the midwest at this tournament. AES Power rankings will reflect their success!!

When are the Power Rankings updated? After all of the bid events?

Im still a bit confused about 18 Purple. I watched them at almost every point series (my son plays 16s and some 17s due to injury) and they weren't close to where they are now. Also, I heard that they lose to their black team on a regular basis at practice. Was this just a hot streak or did they move some players?
I still think that Club 1, HBC, Hitmen Elite, and Ultimate 18 Gold will get bids elsewhere.
Saw Adversity Black play Mizuno and they didn't look like the same team as they did at Palos, maybe someone moved to Purple?

If that is true about moving someone up to 18 Purple, then they cannot move back down as they are now frozen on 18 Purple. I doubt that moving someone up happened unless they are sacrificing 18 Black for 18 Purple to make a national championship run.

No, there was no movement between 18s except that I think one of the middles got moved up from the third team to black because they only had 2 middles. Thats what I can tell from the rosters anyway.

Wow. Way to disparage a club all in two sentences (players, parents, and coaches). A club you apparently know by how direct your comments are and your past screeds that are anti-MVC every chance you get. Care to identify yourself so we can discuss this like grown ups? 2 of the cards (one yellow, one red) were for tying shoes (gasp!), the other red was a phantom card that the tape does not confirm why the ref did it, and the other yellow was bench bitching about the umpteenth poor handle by their setter. Sorry if that offends the greater volleyball gods of decency. And the cards did not lose the match. It was lost at that point which made her actions even more contemptible. Comments I heard at the match were not about the team's conduct but about the refs including from Pitt's parents. Things like "I've never seen that before (multiple cards)", "What's her problem?", and "You guys got screwed". Oh and yes I'm part of the team. I'll defend our players coaches and parents for how they handle themselves on and off the court any day of the week. Including in this unbelievably poorly officiated match.

Including in this unbelievably poorly officiated match. not the entire club, no. just one team within the club. guess i should've clarified mvc 18 jake. mvc 18 was too vague. there's a reason everyone roots against you. and it's not bc you have some incredible success. the results speak for themselves. and your post goes to show you don't get it. getting multiple cards awarded to the bench because you b!tched at calls you bought were wrong? that's okay? agree to disagree.

I am curious about the retort about the 2 yellow/red cards for tying shoes??? I have seen 750 matches with countless kids getting an eye nod from the ref to tie a shoe and not one yelloe or red card was ever given. I am curious to hear from fans who have seen many more matches than I if this is more common than I have seen?

Let me reiterate: receive a yellow or red card for tying a shoe. The answer is no for the vast majority. More than likely this was passive aggressive behavior that was managed appropriately by the ref in order to maintain control of the match.
