In 17s, does anyone know if Baja (Mexico) or Pakmen (Canada) will take bids if they earn them? If not, then the other six teams in gold would get the bids.

Baja and Pakmen will both be declining their bids for 17s, so the bids are HBC, Ultimate, HPSTL, MVC, Coastal, and Milwaukee Sting. Sting is a huge surprise, but they upset BRYC and HVA so I guess they're deserving of it. In 18s, since Bay to Bay has a bid already, six of the remaining 7 teams in gold will get bids. Those teams are: SPRI Mizuno, Carolina union, HPSTL, Aspire, Adversity, Arizona Fear and Pittsburgh. I think Arizona Fear will be the odd man out.

The mighty HBC fails to make gold falling to CUVC out of Charlotte, NC so both SC representatives end up in silver. Who was the other socal representative?

All I can say seeing the results of this tournament: there is lots of talent outside of California. A lot of Southern California teams did not fare well against the midwest teams. Just to name a few, Pac6 16s finished 10th (no bid) and HBC 18s finished T-11th (no bid). Also, Aspire 18s from Arizona got a bid, the first Arizona team to get a bid since 2014 when Spiral 18s won. The big surprise was Carolina Union 18s getting an open bid. They are led by a SOPHOMORE. Bay to Bay also had a very good showing as a club: T-3rd in 14s (bid already), T-5th in 15s (bid), T-5th in 16s (bid), T-3rd in 18s (bid already), and the 17s finished 18th but were very competitive against the open-level teams they played.

Based on the finished mentioned above and the level of play from the Midwest teams I saw today on the top courts I have to agree, particularly for the 18s. Adversity, HPSTL, SPVB, and Vanguard are all excellent teams (those are the best 4 Midwest teams I saw but there are other very good ones).

Similar to last year, the Indy qualifier (this years St Louis tournament) is going to leave a number of good teams on the outside looking in. With only 3 bids available and a lot of quality teams without a bid , this tourney will be a dogfight. Vanguard , Hitmen, Club 1, Adversity Black, D1, Indy Assault, MVC, Pittsburgh Black, Ultimate Gold all will likely be without a bid heading into the event. Add in the usual powers already with bids and this will be an entertaining tournament. Also, I can't say enough good things about the Chicago qualifier. The depth of the 18s field is better every year. This years Chicago silver bracket will likely produce an additional 4-5 more qualifying teams for Columbus.

Great tournament for MVC B16-Phil, picking up where they left off at Nationals. Did not drop a set all weekend!

From what I saw in the 18s bracket, 18 Purple was a force of nature. Really seemed like they saw no opposition that whole tournament especially in the last day. They definitely take the top Midwest team from the Bischoff Mizuno team. This was a seriously amazing tournament especially for 18s and I think that this may be the year that the Midwest can come back and place very high at nationals and maybe repeat or surmount what SPVB did last year.

Adversity 18 Purple looked like an NCAA team. Their coach and new director, moved Maleski (UCLA) from the middle to the right made a huge difference. Ryan and Fauntleroy (USC) have cannons. Very consistent, where was this at the palos point series?
Ultimate 17s played the match of the tournament in the finals and lost on a very very questionable call. HBC is a very solid team and should medal this year.
Mvc 16s are clearly the best team in the 16s. They were never in jeapordy of losing at any point in the tournament. Definite gold medal favorite.

My thoughts 16s: Ultimate boys 16 gold is really good, and SP Runbird making to the finals? Really? A super shaky age group 17s: The HBC looks huge, but Ultimate is also crazy good. I will look for Ultimate to make a stir for top three in nationals over California teams 18s: Adversity dominated everyone, but I would've liked to see them play the HBC. Still, I think adversity took everyone by surprise as how much they man handled all the best teams. Those are some big hitting dudes.

The insane depth brought from both midwest and out of region teams also begs the question of whether or not USAV should expand the number of bids allotted at this tournament. It's not just the 18s division that's getting deeper, 17s had a silver bracket of 7 teams that qualified to 16 open last year and the overall number of qualified out of region teams attending McCormick is only increasing every year. Would it be unreasonable to expect an increase in possible bids in upcoming years?
