Sleeping Dogs
Playing this game in between Battlefield 1.
There's a feature where if you've advanced far enough, you can call your car valet to deliver a car to your location, wherever you are. However, some locations are undeliverable, e.g., inside a building, on an island. If you call your car valet at one of these undeliverable locations, you get this exchange:
Wei (my character): "Hey, it's Wei. I need the car."
Valet: "Sorry, I don't have time right now." [hangs up abruptly]
Wei: "Fu...Arrggghhh..."
So so funny...

Battlefield 1
Now almost near the end of the second main mission. I pilot a fighter plane. I have to take down a bunch of German planes as well as ground cannons. Eventually, I get shot down in No Man's Land and have to make my way, on foot, to friendly territory. It's actually easier to do this stealthily as going guns blazing will draw too much attention and attract lots of Krauts to your arse. Once you get past this part, you're transported to a city in England where, after a few weeks, the German air force has launched a full scale attack. I'm now in my plane and about to hold them off. But kinda sleepy now, so I'll take a break.

Battlefield 1
The good reviews were justified. Such a well designed game. It’s linear but the sheer variety of what you’re asked to do plus the beautiful environment make this a very fun and stimulating game. There are collectibles but they’re not worth anything unless you’re planning on playing multiplayer because the collectibles unlock multiplayer stuff. The stories, so far, are pretty decent. Much better than other games’ stories. I find it more fun than Tomb Raider and Rise of the Tomb Raider.

Sleeping Dogs
One element of this game is that when you're doing a mission (whether main or side), you can NOT:
1. damage property, both public (e.g., city infrastructure like light poles, fire hydrants, parking meters) and private (e.g., vehicles), 2. kill innocent people
If any of these things happen, points get deducted from the overall max score designated for that mission. It's hard not to do any of those things especially if the mission involves a vehicle. Hong Kong is densely populated with cars and people.
So, I was on a mission and had to make a turn onto a street. I looked both ways to make sure I wasn't going to collide with a vehicle. When it was all clear, I turned onto the desired lane. Suddenly, out of the blue, a vehicle spawned right in front of me. I got deducted points for property damage. Not fair.

Good luck getting your insurance company to believe that a car just suddenly appeared in front of you out of thin air.

Good luck getting your insurance company to believe that a car just suddenly appeared in front of you out of thin air. Ironically, there are a couple of side missions in the game involving insurance scams. Someone asks me for a favor to take their car and drive it into the harbor. Different people, different vehicle, different harbor, but same mission details.

how many times do you plan to play sleeping dogs? I played it 3 times all the way through and partially at other times. This will be my 4th time all the way through. Such a cool game. Great soundtrack in your vehicle radio. Switch radio stations and listen to different kinds of music. Game has everything -- melee (which dominates), guns, vehicles, puzzles, lockpicking, hacking, money and other valuable collectibles (that help you boost your skills) scattered all over.

Battlefield 1
Damn, some of the "later" missions are pretty hard. In one mission, we had to take a tiny church. Out of this church came hundreds of soldiers, like, how is this frikkin' possible?
Here's the church. I've keyed it to start where it shows the church. You don't have to watch the whole thing. (I got PTSD after this mission.)

Sleeping Dogs
Just playing this game again reminded me how hard this game was on my first playthrough. Each mission usually consists of a combat (either hand-to-hand or guns) followed by a pursuit (either by foot or vehicle). Some are timed. In the pursuit sections, if you lose sight of your target within, say, 25 seconds, you fail the mission. All sorts of things can go wrong. One of the toughest missions -- "Club Bam Bam" -- happens early when your health level is not that high and your combat skills are limited. And then, a few missions later, the toughest mission in the game -- "Payback" -- happens and you're thinking, "I'm never going to be able to beat this game!" But you do. I don't know how, but you do.
Other "easier" missions are deceptively difficult. For example, the wedding cake mission is one where I have to escort a fellow gang member's bride-to-be to pick up her wedding dress and wedding cake. So, most of the mission involves driving her around some of the busiest sections of Hong Kong. You can't hit anything or kill anyone, just drive safely and cautiously or you lose points. When you come to pick up the wedding cake, some rival gangbanger has stolen the cake so, all of a sudden, you're chasing after this thief, hijacking his vehicle, escaping the highway patrol cops, and driving the vehicle (and the cake) back to a safe garage. Then, I have to escort the bride-to-be to a temple to pick up black orchids for the wedding. The problem is, some kung fu priests are stationed throughout the temple and I have to fight may way past them. It sounds ridiculous.
And then there's the actual wedding, which ends in Game of Thrones-like bloodshed. Another tough mission. Guns everywhere. Plus, you have to escort an injured old man to the hospital while the "bad guys" are trying to shoot you. LOL!

Sleeping Dogs
Some of the side missions are the toughest, even compared to other tough missions in other games. If a side mission involves a vehicle, you're in trouble because they almost always involve pursuits and/or vehicle battles.
One involves taking down four convoy trucks before they reach their destination. The problem is, they've got gunmen firing at you plus these pesky speedy bikers who take shots at you as they're zipping and weaving around you. In my first playthrough, I think it took me over 20 attempts before I finally managed to succeed. Now in my latest playthrough (4th), it only took me about 10 tries.
Another involves a guy who needs to get some illegal drugs to a drop-off point in his car while I'm riding shotgun. En route, 20-30 speedy bikers (it seemed like 100; they're like a combination of pesky mosquitoes and flies) come at you and you've got to take them all down. Oh my lord! Took me over 15 attempts the first time. In my latest playthrough, it took me about 7 tries.
These are so stressful and tricky.
