Is Burik really good though?
I'm talking good like quality of the AVP and where they are in terms of standing. It seems to me that I would put Burik, Allen, Slick, and all of our current mid tier players as whatever was left, with nobody young pushing them. I'm not sure they earned that credential, they were just what was left. They are good quality players. But could they as current second tier AVP players compete against the 2nd tier players of the 90's? Hell no. A young Brian Lewis would wax Burik. I would even argue they couldn't compete with the second tier players of the early Crocs tour when you compare the quality of play.
It's this very reason why I think our immediate future of beach players could very well be guys like Zaun's, DelSol's, Frishman's, etc... May or may not be a good thing, but right now it looks like it is what it is. There is a plethora of young talent on the indoor scene, but they would be giving up a hell of a lot of money to make the move over. One can only hope...

I agree 100% with your assessment of Mark, particularly vis a vis Lewy. When he moved to CA I never thought he would make it close to that far and I thought Hudson carried their team when they played together, so thats what I was referring to. Hope your predicted volleypocalypse doesn't come true, but it looks likely

Now granted Del Sol was playing with a far less potent partner than Zaun but I'd definitely give Zaun the edge if only for his height; not a small defender in the least. Zaun makes really dumb mistakes but he's still young and will eventually figure out that a shoot over the top works the same as a ridiculous angle cut spike (as it were). Again, Mesko was horribly overmatched against Lorenz/Evans who were very strong given they played like 15 matches Sunday alone.

One other note from Laguna, I was really impressed with this young lefty out of UCLA, Worley. Kid is crazy competitive and though limited in height, blocked some balls in his team's solid Sunday run. Guy would be good with a bigger block, playing defense.

Even if it was a smaller purse, maybe 50k or something, this needs to happen

Laguna was spectacular, couldn't be more on top of the action and access was like talking to your neighbor. Really should be on everyone's vb bucket list. As for an AVP stop, no chance, beach is WAY too small with erosion, courts were right along boardwalk and water encroaching; it's what it is: old school vball heaven.

4 wins by Qs in Huntington, 6 in Austin. Setting the number at 5 for NYC. Over or under? What do you guys think?

AVP.com has the Qualifier teams listed by points, you are really starting to see the AVPNext tournaments having an effect. 5th seeded team of Francisco Quesada-Paneque /Troy Schlicker are using 3 1st places along with only 1 MD.

I don't think 8 qualifier wins is out of play. Priddy is good for 2, Ricardo for 3, Marciniak/Rafu at least 1, then there are always a couple first round loser's bracket games which are usually qualifier versus super low seed

guest12 looking at the Q matchups, the 3/62 winner plays the 30/35 winner in R2. Piotr is a 3, and Ricardo is a 35. Wow.. Sucks for one of them.

So the 35 seed will have to play the 3 and 6 seed. Kinda sucks for the 3 and 6 seed. I hope the 3 or 6 seeds wins. By the way the 35 seed is Ricardo

I like over 6, more than Austin. I'm taking the under for the men, the only vulnerable team in the MD for me, is Kevin & Olson. In Austin, the Loomis/Trmablie was a bad 5th seed. They both have better fitting partners this week. there will be at max 2 wins by a Q team on the men's side. On the Women's side, I could see 6-8. The top 2 teams should finish no worse than 7th. Seeds 8-11 are very vulnerable, and a couple seeded better have dropped matches already this year.

This is where some level of reason should come into things. Surely one of the top 10 blockers of all time merits a top 10 quali seed regardless of points
