As much as I like discussing the sport here, has anyone ever pitched having two boards for beach, one men's & one women's? I honestly have zero interest in the women's side of things and find myself having to sift through women's posts on events like Vienna. Could we start a men's/women's Manhattan thread when time is right? Just seems natural as I don't believe I'm alone on this whichever sex you prefer to discuss.

Agreed! Granted we could just try to make gender specific threads.

NO. Just make specific threads. People like beach, not like indoor where people only like women's indoor.

"..and find myself having to sift through women's posts on events like Vienna."
Yes. This is extremely strenuous on the bottom of my palm and pinky when it rubs against my desk. At 20-30 posts a day, this is just too much work. I think of what could have been accomplished in those 90 seconds and think to myself, there must be a better way.
And why is that reporter/player guy still playing qualifiers..? How much can these people put me through?

Watching 1st and second round AVP women's matches may be the dullest available beach volleyball experience. The dual gender tours, at least in the US, continue to be a major contributor to losing money

I love that you said this! One of the worst things that ever happened to the business model of the AVP was becoming dual gender. Can you imagine having the WNBA pair up with the NBA? Immediately after the Warriors/Cavs you'll be treated to the Lynx/Mystics. Watch in amazement as Lindsey Whalen makes a not exactly gravity-defying, right-handed layup!!! Men's beach volleyball is vastly more entertaining because it features athletes doing things that regular people can't typically do. I could compete and do well on the Women's tour and I'm a 47 year old, 5'11 man that isn't unique athletically. It might be wonderful for women to have this opportunity and great for society that we are giving equal pay and exposure for both genders. But it is hurting the entertainment value of the AVP when they feature volleyball on TV that doesn't have a wow factor to it.

best match last year on the avp, was the Claes/Hughes vs. Ross/Walsh in SF hands down.
If you all have issues skipping over conversation about crap that you don't care about says more about you than the sport.

I agree that it isn't the world's biggest hardship. But really it isn't a bad idea to make separate threads for each gender.

I like the mix gender format of fivb and avp. Obviously women do not have the athletic ability of men, but the womens game is very entertaining, longer rallies, and the ball control of the women is equally impressive. It's fun dwitchong back and forth at tournaments and watching the different style of play.
So I am a big fan of mixing it up. The nba is a different animal all together, the games are much too long for both genders to begin with. If they were shortened, I could see watching an hour game of wnba before a 2 hour nba game, but nothing longer. That would make for a fun evening.

Agree with level of play on women's tour is greatly diminished last several years. Hoping the NCAA beach will re-invigorate it. But by the same token, except for Crabb vs Crabb final a couple of weeks ago, the men's game has become relatively boring to me as well. Ace, block, or kill in 1-2 volleys. And the FIVB event in Fort Lauderdale was good, but geez if I hear "Monster Block, Monster Block, Monster Monstor Monstor Block" one more time I'll scream. And then on Facebook we have "Old School Volleyball" with pre rally videos each week with extended rallies, huge crowds and personalities. Hopefully the game will continue to evolve.

We need a separate board to talk about qualifier/low-level/NVL dudes. Or maybe a separate board dedicated solely to who Marty Lorenz should play with.

If there were a way to calculate the marketing dollars invested into the WNBA since its founding, I would bet they have spent over $1,000 for each individual fan The best the women's game has ever been was early AVP days when there were 8 players who were all good. (If Kirby/Masakayan had made the jump too, it would have been awesome) Early round women's games have always been awful and I defy anyone to say they regularly enjoy Sheila Shaw versus Janelle Allen type matches. Now is different because in the past the women's side was much deeper but now the top of the AVP is awful now as well. Nicole Branagh takes two years off, has a baby, is 40 and she occupies roughly the same place in the AVP pecking order she did in her prime. To put it another way, try to imagine a Youtube video of Lauren Fendrick or Summer Ross' top ten plays.

However even if the top match as a women's match the worst 50 non-injury ones were probably also women's matches. I think the more relevant question is what is added by having both genders. Should be a fairly simple equation, figure out who would not come out or watch if the women were eliminated, then cost that against the money saved or additional tour stops added. Now that Kerri is gone I doubt there are many people who wouldn't come to a men only tour. Also when I watch the stream the viewership always seems to go down during women's matches. Thats anecdotal of course but it seems like there is a core group of fans interested in both genders and others just interested in the men.

I imagine Donald Sun is going to market the hell out of April, Sara & Kelly next season....After that, not sure...possibly Aprils new partner...Please God, let there be one...
