I don't really think Chaim is that great of a player, Internationally. If him and Saxton represented the US, they wouldn't even be a MD qualifying team. The only reason they were in the Olympics was CQ. They finished 19th on the FIVB tour last year (Hyden/BNourne finished 11th), and it was his best year Internationally.

Chaim played quite well with Santos, defeating Phil & Nick in NYC. Again, very surprised Santos didn't reunite, thinking Reid offered some of his prize money or more. Based on his beach hack videos, money isn't much of an issue for him.

Chaim can definitely get overrated because some of his shots can be spectacular in terms of angles etc. but I think he suffers from the same problem Phil has had for years (of course he isnt anywhere near as good as Phil) his partner options are limited. Pair him with a top blocker and he could win on either tour.

Cook/Olson get Mesko/Del Sol, should be a great match between Mesko's experience and Cook's physicality.

Just noticed Long ago poster and pretty good coach, CoGlave's kid Logan is playing. He's playing indoor for Concordia Next year. (they move up to D-1 and start playing in the MPSF next season)
Motter and Olson could give Brunsting and Samuels trouble, it'll be their second match so they shouldn't be gassed.
There are some known names in that 1st section.

Cook/Olson get Mesko/Del Sol, should be a great match between Mesko's experience and Cook's physicality. I think that is probably the one team that would likely handle Delsol/Mesko. Samuels/Brunsting is another very solid matchup but there's a lot of Volleyball IQ with Mesko/DelSol, I just don't think as a team they will handle Cook/Olson. I will say, if they get past McCoy/Wherwiter, at lesat they get them on the 3rd match instead of the 4th. Whatever is left of Mesko's physicality basically drains by the game throughout the day.

I see Nichols/Nichols as 11. Wonder if thats the old man Jim with brother, or a kid?

I feel for the writer guy Travis, in the same group with Olsen/Cook, a qualifier for sure, imo..

Yeah, agreed. Tough draw for Mesko/DelSol. I'm taking Olson/Cook, Derek can guide Cook through, and Mesko's block won't scare Derek. Samuels/Brunsting don't have to deal with Mesko/DelSol in the Q luckily. The 4& 13 bracket is wide open, DiPierro / Van Zwieten, Irons / McGuire, Field / Irizarry, Paulis / Sauter - only one of these teams will play to get out of pool and will likely play Brock / Rice, who don't have any major road blocks in front of them. (Brock is one of the last few players I coached still playing).

Not sure which U.S. defenders I would rank higher than him. He sides out better than any of them and is better in transition. Gives up a little on the defensive side, but his offensive ability outweighs. Would be interesting to see his FIVB finishes playing with either Gibb or Phil.

I think Mesko did ok against him when they won at Seaside, but I am thinking this qualifier is going to hold more true to Mesko/DelSol's more physical tournaments, where DelSol has to start blocking towards the end, maybe even by this match. I know nothing about Motter, but looks like Brunsting/Samuels get Olsen in the 2nd round which is better than 3rd or 4th. I'd like to see Christian Honer get in a MD, and he does have about as favorable of a bracket as he could likely get. Is Mark Scheurrman a decent qualifying level player?
