Pools aren't listed yet. The US and Euro teams had tournaments this past weekend, not sure what other countries have been doing since the WC. But that may have a factor. worldtour.2017.fivb.com/en/mssf2017/men/results/maindrawTeams: Clemens Doppler Alexander Horst Austria Saymon Barbosa Alvaro Filho Brazil Evandro Goncalves Andre Loyola Brazil Ben Saxton Chaim Schalk Canada Markus Bockermann Lorenz Schumann Germany Armin Dollinger Jonathan Erdmann Germany Daniele Lupo Paolo Nicolai Italy Piotr Kantor Bartosz Losiak Poland Viacheslav Krasilnikov Nikita Liamin Russia Adrian Gavira Pablo Herrera Spain Theo Brunner Casey Patterson United States Phil Dalhausser Nick Lucena United States

Wow Alison and Bruno didn't make the cut. I understand that they want some German teams in the tournament but these two teams don't stand a chance! They should drop this 2 teams per country rule and simply let the best 12 teams play imo.

Wonder which Brazil team is going to screw up seeding for the elim bracket this week??
All teams make it out, which kind of takes some urgency out of the pool play matches.

Casey and Theo have a pretty difficult pool too, but if Theo is playing at the level he was in the last two matches of AVP MBO, blocking and "firing bullets" then they have a decent chance.

Somewhere in the labyrinthine FIVB headquarters there is a wizened old man who puts together formats. His sole governing principle is to make sure wins and losses have no meaning at all

Then all the teams will vote via placing smiley face stickers on the teams they think should come out.

While I put their odds of winning somewhere between slim & none, at least Casey & Theo are playing arguably their best ball.

One final can't be sitting well with them

And I'm not even referring to the ones playing this weekend.

His sole governing principle is to make sure wins and losses have no meaning at all It may not seem like much, but having to win only 3 matches vs. 4 in the elimination rounds probably almost doubles your chances of winning gold. In a tourney where the teams are fairly evenly matched, they should fight for every edge they can get.
