Nick and Phil would have had doubled their AVP win total if not for the birth of Nicks child. All in all, they had a very successful season. The only downer really was the World Championships.
Congrats Phil. You showed today you are still the greatest!

Nick had a first ball sideout on 6 out of 15 attempts (40%). USA was lucky that Brazil missed so many serves..both out and to Phil. Nick only received 6 serves the first set and 9 in the second set. I don't know how this compares to their other matches, but I'd guess this is pretty good rate for Nick against a top FIVB team. Thinking back to to past losses and even some wins, it seems like Nick often sides out at a much lower rate than that. He'll never be a top side out player, but his defense and passing combined with Phil's ability at the net makes up for that somewhat.

Would phil and little crab, or Rosie or Patterson etc won the whole tournament? Odds are no. Nick and phil make a really good team. Phil feeds off nicks fire. When Phil is blocking well and nick is digging well it has to be a mental game for there opponents. Other teams probably think there's nothing they can do to score or win. Nick digs really really good if anyone has noticed. Yes he's not the best side out player but everything else is great which I think wind games because teams get mentally down But they compliment each other as a team. In an interview, Phil said Nick was too chirpy and Nick said Phil was too laid back on the court. Phil said he always envision to end his career with Nick, so hopefully they run for another few years. Here's a video of them bickering and it's so funny!! πππ

Congrats Phil. You showed today you are still the greatest! They forfeited a contenders match to Casey and Theo in NYC and missed out on Seattle together, but yes, World Champs was a huge upset... They've had a bronze in Ft. Lauderdale Major, a gold in Moscow 3-Stars, a gold in Gstaad, a gold at Long Beach, and a gold at World Tour Finals. Domestically, they won in AVP Huntington Beach, Austin, and Manhattan Beach. It's been a good year for them indeed.

Love watching Nick, but if he only sided out 40% of the time they would lose most matches. Phil made crazy covers when Nick was stuffed and made some blocks when he was dug. If Brazil had simply served him underhand, they probably would have won, unless Phil went on 2. I didn't notice how much he struggled until I watched a 2nd time and kept track.

Both Lucena and Dalhausser are 37, but Nick turns 38 sometime later this year. Do you mean regardless of the maximum 2 teams per country, the teams should be based on their rankings? All 12 teams? No wildcards? I know for World Tour Finals, no ranking points are given but for World Champs, the winning team takes 1600 points. I guess it's the season finale, so it has the largest prize purse. As Ben Saxton wrote for the latest blog entry for the Major Series, this is their bonus at the end of the year. Yes, the TOP 12 teams and no wildcard. You should turn your attention to something that has a better chance to happen. Like world peace, or a cure for the common cold.

It's the finals, shouldn't both teams struggle more than normal??? Oh wait, that is what happened!!!

Nick needs more credit! What about his ability to set phil up on 2 even on hard serves or when he digs a ball? Nick does so many things well.

Could phil and Rogers at thee prime win like they did in today's fivb which has way more big guys and deeper field. Phil and Rogers couldn't even beat Hyden and Scott in 2008 I think

Phil/Todd only really had one FIVB season that was far and away better than what Phil has done with Sean and Nick. I disagree the tour is stronger now, deeper certainly but who that is playing now would be better than Phil/Todd or Emmanuel/Ricardo in their primes. Those two are 1 and 2 if they played today and I don't mean a narrow 1 like Phil/Nick are
