Just watched the match. Surprised USA gave up the 1st set. Phil and Nick looked very complaisant in the 2nd set. Nick started getting some energy, and Phil feeds off of him. Good win, if they didn't, I was going to lose my faith a lot in this team. I'm not sure if this win is enough to keep faith because let's face it, Canada gave this one away. They weren't able to pass a lollipop serve and then didn't pass the next one at all. And that was probably the 3rd or 4th husband and wife serve that lead to a direct point for Phil and Nick. That's inexcusable for a team that has played as long together as team Canada has imo. Only from around the 20:20 mark on Phil and Nick got some momentum and started to play good vb. It just shows that a match is never lost if you have big Phil on your team. I've seen him many many times get a couple of blocks at the end of a set to turn things around, even if he didn't get any blocks before. well, I felt Phil and Nick gave the 1st set away. Not as bad as CAN did the 2nd, but..

USA going to the gold medal match!
21-19, 21-15
Poland started to over a bit in the second and the Americans definitely turned it up a bit.
Back to sleep and then 9AM for the gold medal match against Italy or Brazil.

Team that needed a wild card to get in = grueling three games Top 3-5 team in he world = Two game spanking
Nick and Phil in a nutshell. There is almost no result that would surprise me with these two (especially considering they have struggled with the Poles previously)

Bronze medal match POL vs ITA went 17-21, 21-19. So there'll be a third set.

ITA vs POL : 21-17, 19-21, 15-12
The Polish made maybe 4 services to the net plus a double contact call, resulting in free points for the Italians in the third set.
Therefore, ITALY Daniele Lupo and Paolo Nicolai are the bronze medalists for 2017 Hamburg World Tour Finals.
And turns out both Italy and Poland had scores of 19-21, 15-21 in the semi finals.

Gold medal final: Brazil does not seem to get on their service game and when that happens this team utterly deflates. Phil and nick look like they are in a good position at the end of the first 21-15

This is Beijing game 3 level blocking from Phil. He got the Holy Grail of blocking on Evandro (so straight down it hit the hitter's foot before he landed) and then the soul-destroying hang and swat on the next play. Wow!

Evandro jump floats to Phil. That feels like when the moose stops fighting and bares its throat to the wolfpack, hoping for a quick end.

"Turning point of the second set" is Phil getting a block to go up 18-12? This is a blocking masterclass. Seems like Nick has been blocked or dug on 75-80% of his swings this game and it doesn't matter, Phil is just too good
