Nick just made a play at 18-15 that only a very few players can make! Rosie and crabb maybe that's it! Phil and Nick take the W 21-17, 21-19 and top their pool!

After Evandro and Andre's win over the Russians in straight sets, they top the pool. Casey and Theo are last in the pool and regardless, the Russians and the Casey/Theo will have to play a single elimination match on Friday.

Theo was definitely on the left for part or all of Huntington and NYC at least I tried to find video from NYC or Hungington, but nothing of Theo/Casey on the AVP site. They switched sides when they were basically at the worst of their partnership. They have slowly played a little better since. Casey either got tired of Theo's setting, or finally acknowledged that he can't hit on the rightside anymore. WHatever the decision was it has been for the better.

Strange how unimposing that bracket looks without Bruno/Allison or the Latvians. I wonder if this is a long term thing or maybe a one year phenomenon

Phil and Nick get Canadians or the Russians depending on who wins in the Round of 12.
If Casey and Theo win Bockermann and Schumann, they'll have Kantor and Losiak for the quarterfinals.

Canadians put the Russians out. This is good news for Phil and Nick. Canadians are solid but lower ceiling than the Russians. If Phil/Nick show up they should get this one

That's definitely good news for Phil and Nick. Saymon and Alvaro lost against Doppler/Horst, which makes me believe that the best Brazilian team is not even playing in this tournament. If Bruno and Alison have the right mindset (which they didn't seem to have this year) they are still the nr. 1 team in Brazil imo.

Doppler/Horst take the win against Alvaro/Saymon in 2 sets. This is a surprise. That Brazilian team hasn't won a single match out of three in this tournament. I read that they almost didn't make it there in time because of the flight delays.
The Austrians' reward is a quarterfinal match against Evandro and Andre. So a rematch of their gold medal match in Vienna World Champs!

E/L essentially played well twice. The real difference between these two teams has been the luck of the draw. Whereas E/L were regularly beaten by teams they should have worked, A/B generally only lost to top teams with a few exceptions. Tour has been so short this year that its hard to say any team has really outpaced most of their peers

Tour has been so short this year that its hard to say any team has really outpaced most of their peers I went and looked for h2h results: Saymon Barbosa / Alvaro Filho went 4-0 vs. E/L and 1-0 vs. A&B. E/L vs. A&B remarkably didn't face each other on FIVB this year.
