15-4 in Game 2 - "I fear that may be the turning point"
Larissa is so good. How often does Talita block, land, turn around and a nice easy ball is just sitting there for her to set.
16-6 "that was such an important point."

One would really have to see it to believe it.
Technical timeout was 15-6. 21-10 in the second set.
Brazil vs Brazil semifinal.
Larissa was shooting aces one after another.

The first seeded Germans fell into a deep dark hole that just got deeper and deeper.

At the first set point in the first set, Larissa was frustrated at herself that she hit a ball out of bounds. She threw her visor onto the sand.
And from that point on, no one could put out her fire.

This is going to be the ninth year in her career that Larissa has led the FIVB in wins. (3 of the last 4) If you count Leonard's event, where she beat some top teams, L/T have won 4 and no one else even has two.
She has led the tour 3 of the last 4 and she has done that despite playing with a partner who is solid, but is probably somewhere between the 10th-15th best player out there.
Its getting harder and harder to justify the proposition that Misty was better than Larissa.

9-15 they lose the third set... All USA girls are out of the World Tour Finals. 😢 Just watched set 3 of Summer Sweat. They were actually leading 5-4, then proceeded to lose the next 7 points! Numerous passing and hitting errors by both women. That's got to be a disappointing finish to a mostly successful season. Really interested to see what happens next year with these two.

This tourney is very strange. How can you lose both your pool matches and still be in the tournament? Larissa is one of the greatest players ever period. I guess it depends on how you look at it. Best regular tourney player maybe but when it comes to the big spotlight not so much. In all her greatness 1 World Championship Gold, and i Bronze and 1 Olympic Bronze medal. If it were me I would take 3 straight World Championship Golds followed by a Silver and three straight Gold Medals in the Olympics.I know what people will say Misty played with Kerri all those years which is true but pretty sure Misty was served to at least 85% of the time and handled it pretty darn well especially before her bad injury.

Larissa will never be held in the same regard as Misty, for that single reason - Misty played big in the biggest events, Larissa did (and does) not. Larissa, for all of her great accomplishments (she'll step directly into the Hall of Fame when she retires, deservedly so), is kind of the Queen of Bronze.

But we can`t judge just based on winning the Olympics. Look at soccer, Messi and Ronaldo are considered among the greatest ever, but they have never performed well in the World Cup and they will end their careers without ever winning the biggest tournament.
I see the World Tour as "club season" and OG and WCH as "International Tournaments".
In the World Tour everyone is more in their element, in the OG and WCH everyone is out of their comfort zone.

I am not judging Larissa. Anyone with eyes can see she is one of the best ever. I am just saying some people will judge things by different measures.

Anyone who thinks Summer/Brooke beat Larissa/Talita for any reason other than L/T not caring should take a look at how many elimination matches L/T have lost to second tier teams in the last 3 years. This is the trouble with the FIVB and their stupid formats. L/T benefited by losing. Once they lost to Ludwig, they were going to have to play an extra match and by losing to S/Brooke they ended up playing a quarter against a team they have beaten 7 of 8 times, rather than Duda, who has given them a lot of trouble. The trouble with comparing Misty and Larissa are two. The first is exactly what you said, that Kerri was so far above and beyond any other blocker from 2002 to 2008 that it skews everything. Starting in 2005, the beginning of Larissa's run as a top player, if you switched Kerri and Juliana, Larissa wins substantially more than Misty no question. Is that because Larissa was better? No, although she may have been, but KW/Larissa would have won because Kerri was a much better player than Juliana, and really everyone else. Around that time Kerri played six events with Branagh and Wacholder and won 4 of them. The other problem is their primes didn't really overlap that much. Larissa and Misty were both top players for 6 of the same years. 2005-8, 2011-2012 (Misty played in 2010 but wasn't near her peak). Misty may have been better from 2005-2008, but Larissa was 23-26 years old, whereas Misty was 28-31. In 2011-2012, when Larissa was in her prime years, she was much better. For me if you take both players best years it could be a toss up because its impossible to judge given the Kerri v Juliana difference, but the fact that Larissa has the longetivity and has achieved great success with a pretty weak partner comparatively tips the scales for me. Oh and whoever said Laura, why don't we wait until Laura posts two seasons with at least 2 wins. You know since Larissa has done that 12 times.

Precisely the point. Misty has six golds from WC/OG. Larissa has one (2011 WC). When everyone is out of their comfort zone, Misty performed time and time again. Every discussion of who the GOAT is - May, Walsh, Larissa, Michael Jordan, LeBron, Tom Brady, Joe Montana, Serena, Federer and so on - always boils down to who won the biggest, most pressure packed events.
