She is playing on the right side. I was responding to the suggestion we might need a transfer on the left side.

Read on the transfer thread that Gia Milana is transferring from Maryland. Might be someone to look at. Also is DeBerg staying ? Hear something that she might be wanting to transfer

This isn't really guaranteed anymore with all the changes happening in the B1G i.e. Tiffany Clark. She could transfer and play right away if the B1G waives the restrictions.

She just needs to work on a lot of aspects of the game. She is slower and has a small vertical. I think shes got a lot of work to do to be a starter next year.

Are you guys thinking O'Brien at LIB next season?

Are you guys thinking O'Brien at LIB next season? She is the obvious favorite for the job given her play as libero during Brandi's injury. Don't know much about Taylor Kuper, maybe she will be able to step up as a freshman like Brandi, although Brandi graduated early and had the spring workouts to give her a head start. Regardless, I hope that the passing continues to improve. It was an absolute pleasure that we were able to eliminate that portion of our conversation last year after it was the constant theme on this thread the year before.

I would love for Illinois to pick up a DS like Albright was at Nebraska for 3 years. She only played back row but served, passed and hit out of the backrow. Maybe Kuper can be that girl

They’re pretty rare, and if you have Cook truth serum he would probably admit that she accomplished more than even he expected.

Righty now just Quade out of the back row. Nice to have another option. Grab a kid who was a good OH but can pass and serve and train her to hit out of the backrow

Grab a kid who was a good OH but can pass and serve and train her to hit out of the backrow To be able to do what Albrecht did, you likely had to be a highly skilled OH. Almost all of these kids were good/decent outsides in high schools. Davis was, Brandi was, Annika was, etc. None of those kids could bring it out of the back row though. Korte would not have been that option either because of her ball control. It is extremely few and far between to find a kid that can rip a pipe, pass nails, and defend, but only wants to be a DS. That’s all I’m saying.

I went to a few D3 games this year. All of the top teams had 5'8", 5'9", 5'10" OHs who were hitting with authority from the backrow. Illinois Wesleyan's 5'8" OH (who admittedly was a 1st team D3 All American) was an exceptional passer and was a real threat out of the backrow. Several CCIW teams ran a backrow attack with greater frequency than Illinois, and all of the attackers were 5'10" or smaller. There are players like that out there, you just have to persuade them to become a role player on a D1 team rather than the focus on a D3 team. Personally, I probably would choose to be a go to player rather than run the risk of 4 years of standing on the sideline hoping to get a chance.

It's convincing them to take a chance on a BIG 5 Conference school and being a role player than a star on a smaller team. Maybe the lure of a great education, some scholie money & a chance at Div 1 recognition would help. Parkland college has a killer team. Im sure one of those girls would love a chance to play @ Illinois.
