This makes me kind of sad, even though it was time.

Wow. Shocking.
I don't like the tone of that press release. I hope this was totally Haley's decision.
The guy came just one or two lucky bounces from taking his team to the Finals.

The press release says nothing about Haley resigning.
It's pretty obvious he was fired, which, IMO is a travesty. An utter, undeserved travesty.

You should at least have the decency of allowing Haley to be the one to announce he's leaving.
This is very bush league. I'm always amazed that some 'leaders' at our so-called institutions of higher learning are quite stupid.
Whether you like Haley or not, and whether you think it was time or not...this is no way to handle this kind of change, IMO.

An all-time great coach, pioneer and legend of the game. Should have been treated better.

Mick Haley is seventy-four years old. A long and distinguished career. A lot of good teams and a few great and dominating teams. I’m assuming you will retire and wish you health and happiness for the rest of your life. USC is definitely one of the top ten programs in the country. Tremendous talent in the state and region. Get kids who greatly favor a warm environment and the L.A. scene of so many distractions. A great private university to boot. They will get a head coach who has demonstrated high quality over several years.

This is the only job opening that would ever make me nervous about Elliott leaving Texas. Hopefully he is comfortable in Austin.

On the surface, this job should attract a lot of high quality candidates. Power 5 conference, reputable academic institution, great salary plus benefits, great access to volleyball talent, great location (well, not necessarily South Central, but southern California is a destination area). And for me, lots and lots and lots of awesome museums! That's my biggest draw -- the museums!
Mick Haley is like my grandpa. I'll miss him.
At least now, he'll have more time for multiplayer and co-op games with me. Woo Hoo!

Trojan athletic director Lynn Swann could have demonstrated more class and care for his head volleyball coach. I understand he is 74. A tough situation for sure. If Mick left against his will, I understand his reluctance. I don’t know how long John Cook will be our head coach. He is sixty-one and has the energy, knowledge and outlook of a man much younger. He is in his prime and shows no signs of fatigue and wearing out. But USC will get a prime head coach, I think.

20+ years is a long time to be doing only one thing. A lot of people do it -- perhaps out of necessity for the $$$. Or the lucky ones stay at it because they simply love it. I couldn't. I'd go bananas. My lifelong dream was to retire before the age of 40 and be a beach bum for my remaining years.

This is the only job opening that would ever make me nervous about Elliott leaving Texas. Hopefully he is comfortable in Austin. I don't mean this as a knock on Elliott....I think he's an excellent coach. But Haley just took USC to the exact same level in the tournament as Texas, with (IMO) a lot less talent. And his team got a couple of questionable calls that shifted the momentum of the 5th set. And the team he lost to is playing for the title. This is just a low move by Lynn Swann. Very low. Not sure how he's qualified to be an AD anyway. For me, this is a big s***-stain on USC.
