Mick is going to do himself a disservice making this public. He may get the old guard VB community support, but claiming agism just smells like a white guy entitlement.. Congratulations on interjecting race into the topic for no sensible reason. He just loves to inject his liberal slant on most everything.

Wow. Shocking. I don't like the tone of that press release. I hope this was totally Haley's decision. The guy came just one or two lucky bounces from taking his team to the Finals. If it was his decision, the press release reads differently, unfortunately. I’m just baffled at what’s been happening the last couple years. AD’s and players have no knowledge of what it takes, yet are calling all the shots. Terrible for the game and the profession. There are a lot of good coaches either out of the college game or looking to get out ASAP. Something needs to change. This is also what happens when some Universities want 'Rock Star' AD's. What qualifies Swann to be an AD, exactly? He was a great NFL player in the 1970s? His unsuccessful run as a Republican candidate for Governor of Pennsylvania? His work as a sports broadcaster? His brief stint as emcee of To Tell The Truth?

The AD is an idiot. He doesn’t care about women’s sports. They’ve been trying to add softball there for years and he always shuts it down. He only showed up to 1 Vball game this season and that was to sit next to Kobe Bryant who was there.
SUPER curious how the players are gonna take this/react. Anyone think any transfers?

Do you think Swann woke up this morning thinking, "Hmmmm, I think I'll fire someone today. Why not that guy who coaches volleyball?" What they did certainly looks bad. USC and the players will face the consequences.

Just a guess, but I bet they asked him to resign/retire he said no, so they did the not renew the contract thing.
FYI, BYU did the same to Elaine Michaelis. Except they didn’t even give her a chance to resign.

Idk, If you were thinking of transferring you might stay if the new coach was to your liking -- sort of a reprieve.

If this was already decided before the season, the reasons could go back a ways. He's an "old school" coach. He was known for publicly dressing down players in matches - how was he in practices? Oregon fired Moore due to player complaints - this could be a similar situation.

Sorry to see Mick go. He was always great to me and my daughter who played for his wife's club team for several years. At USC, you have to win (i.e.NCAA titles), and it has been a long time since Mick did that (with Jareed's recruits). I hope Swann handled it with more dignity that Haden did with Billy Ferguson.

People don't seem to understand that if your contract is expired, you don't have anything from which to "resign." The only face-saving option would have been to retire, but Mick obviously isn't ready to do that (and wasn't willing to go quietly).

I don't know how much Swann is making, but his predecessor made approximately $3M in his final year. Prior to his 2016 USC hire, Swan's total days of experience in athletic administration in either the University, College, Junior College or High School level: Exactly 0.

I'll write a longer post later - but this really stinks. I knew Mick wanted a few more go's, but I also knew many were not fond of him.
Thank you so much for everything you did for USC volleyball. You are a legend.
