Casebeer will likely go back to Mayer as that's the safer bet right now. Jeremy is NOT a world class blocker by any means, better than average but not nearly long enough for international play. Reid doesn't have options beyond Ricardo and maybe Marty, he's probably ceded this year regarding Tokyo but dude still needs to be finishing T7s to get any attention this next offseason or partner blow up early this season.

Its funny you put it that way because, other than Chaim, of everyone mentioned in this thread, Mayer is the best and - except for Ricardo - he is the best by a mile. In 2015, he finished lower than Reid's career high in one tournament. I wish the other players would take a look at how Reid markets himself and the way he has made the quest for Tokyo a subject of discussion and attention etc. Its a shame that Reid didnt come out after his gold medal indoors.

Been trying to follow Tri and his recovery/setbacks, etc. - does anyone know his current status? Read up a little about that disease he has - really feel sorry for that guy - hope he somehow can get it into remission? You should listen to episode 1 of the Sandcast. He talks about it great detail there.

Maybe by then Ryan will be ready to commit.

I don't see any benefit for Ryan to leave Allen for Priddy other than Allen not fully committed to FIVB but that can work itself out if he continues to get points.

Agreed for 2018 because Ryan is also not yet singularly focused on Tokyo. But I also wouldn't expect Ryan to win as much with Billy as he did with Hyden last year. If Ryan remains the #2 US blocker when the qualification process starts (assuming Gibb retires from FIVB and Slick or Theo don't surpass him), he'll probably look to pick up a better defender for a Tokyo run. The most logical option at this point would seem to be Taylor, but there's maybe a couple other guys who could conceivably step up this year. Just not many elite US defenders right now.

Thanks for all of the info, you guys - I'm really rooting for him - must be so tough, at such a young age, to be dealing with such an unpredictable disease and future, but he sure seems to have a great attitude - hope he can make it back at some point!

Mayer explained on Sandcast part 1 with he and Billy that he had a commitment for The Hague tourney and that Casebeer told him he was going to play with Reid to still get them some points. I know Jeremy and Reid have been training some together, most specifically indoor for The Hague with Casey and Stafford, but I think the intention all along has been to partner back with Mayer for 2018. Those two were coming together at the end of last season and I’m glad they are seeing if they can keep progressing and make a final or two and maybe steal a win.

Who do we think Chaim Schalk will end up with? I could see him landing a decent blocker (Cook?) who is willing to stay domestic and place high in the AVP events.

Has to be Ricardo, unless Doherty decides to focus domestically to a much greater degree. When is Chaim eligible to play for the US internationally? Is it next year?
