I find it interesting that Iowa has a new arena in the works that seems to resemble very closely what Illinois has been working on for several years. In Illinois' case the National Hockey League wishes to encourage more universities to field ice hockey teams. The NHL has specifically targeted and promoted this idea with Illinois since the interest is there in the state with high school ice hockey teams, and Illinois players filling hockey rosters at universities already fielding scholarship hockey teams at other universities (Illinois does have a 'club' hockey team already). The ice hockey arena would also be the home for wrestling, gymnastics, and volleyball. The two competing UI arena proposals differed in their size and location. One proposal was for an on-campus site, and the other was for a downtown Champaign site. The athletic department at Illinois favored the downtown site. I don't know how far from realization the arena is at Illinois. The U of I has other athletic facilities already being built at this time.

In his Chalk Talk tonight before the Maryland match, Bond referenced that although not confirmed yet (will find out next week), he believes Cali Hoye's volleyball career is over due to her knee injury. So, so sorry to hear this. Anyone have an update on Hoye? Last I heard was what I had posted here: that news was expected that following week on whether this was a career-ending situation. Still holding out hope for Cali to be able to possibly return...but sure didn't sound good when Coach referenced this that evening.

I really really enjoyed watching Cali play this season, and it certainly would be an understandable but heartbreaking loss.

Sarah Wing no longer listed on current roster. Best of luck in whatever is next for her. Wing to Nebraska-Omaha, per her Instagram and in the D1 2019 Transfers thread. Wishing her the best closer to home.

I really really enjoyed watching Cali play this season, and it certainly would be an understandable but heartbreaking loss. I took note of the wording in this excerpt from the "Final Notes" volleyball article on hawkeyesports.com that came out today (link at bottom of post): LOOKING AHEAD TO 2019- The Hawkeyes are set to return 11 players with six newcomers ready to join the team. - After a year of experience, freshmen middle blockers Amiya Jones and Hannah Clayton return to create havoc in the middle. The duo combined for 189 total blocks and 242 kills. - Sophomore setter Brie Orr will return as an upperclassmen after two strong seasons. Orr ranks eighth in program history with 2,443 career assists. - Junior Cali Hoye will return as Iowa's most effective outside hitter after a breakout season where she led the Hawkeyes with 3.82 kills per set and was second with 19 service aces in 21 matches.
11 players would include Cali and then pretty direct statement about her returning later!! I sure hope this proves to be true. Cali, we need you and love watching you play for the Hawks! hawkeyesports.com/news/2018/12/18/iowa-volleyball-final-2018-notes.aspx

I don't know how well-versed Iowa's sports info department is, but with my school, such articles can sometimes be off a bit with their facts. For instance, such a "looking ahead" article could have been written by someone just looking at the roster and stats, and not necessarily taking into account injury factors or transfers.

Could very well be the case. I am hoping not, though!
