Completely different approach to scheduling this year. Nothing like the drink-from-the-firehose approach Bond took last year. Lipscomb, Washington, Colorado, and Iowa State will be good for the RPI. Lipscomb should be beatable, Iowa State possibly, Colorado maybe, Washington will be a true test. They won't likely get the scheduling bonus.
For conference -
Cellar: Rutgers H&A Maryland H&A Indiana A Northwestern H&A
Top: Wisconsin H&A Minnesota A Nebraska H&A Penn State H
Iowa's going to have to do better in conference this year than last if they hope to make the postseason.

We'll have to correct the biggest issue we had last season... winning the games we had in front of us. Going from having a W in 4 to an L in 5 against Iowa St. really hurt, and that loss to Maryland in the end was the nail in the coffin for the tournament. We went 7-13 in conference last season... that's 7 cellar-dweller teams right there and we cannot afford a loss to any of them. We took 3 matches from Michigan/Ohio St. last season, we'll need something similar and probably better to get the job done this season. It'll be exciting!

Personally I would be more worried about Colorado than Washington. Colorado has a core of quality seniors back whereas UW will be depending on a majority of frosh and sophs. They'll be green and vulnerable early in the season.

They'll be pretty steady, and I favor them over Iowa maybe 80/20. I have no clue what Washington will do this year. Wouldn't be shocked by any result in that match-up.

I just uncovered this interesting fact about Drechsel: "As a Freshman (2017): Saw playing time in 31 matches (109 sets) at opposite with 16 starts ... posted 11 kills, two aces, four digs and three blocks vs. Iowa (11/17)."
If Powell can avoid too many frosh errors I think Drechsel and Bajema could make it a fun match to watch.

Most unfortunate part to me is that there are no home pre-conference tourneys...just that one lone pre-conference home match against Eastern Illinois. They will be road-tested early, that's for sure. Also, kinda interesting that they have six Sunday matches. Excited for the season. GO HAWKS!

Congrats to Maddie Slagle, named PVB Defensive Dandy "Dandy Lion!" Really like the grit, competitiveness and all-around skill Maddie will bring to the court for the Hawks this fall.

And similar kudos to 2020 recruit Leanne Lowry, recognized as PVB Defensive Dandy "Gym Dandy!" We have some nice back-row talent coming our way!
