Poly took set 3 27-25 to go up 2-1 on Pepperdine. Set four is tied at 16-16. Scully still playing great for Pepp with 21 kills, hitting .370. Frohling was struggling at OH (hitting .091), and was subbed out for freshman OH, Ahrens, who is doing better (.273).
Cal Poly takes the match 3-1 after winning set four 25-20. Still, a nice start for Pepperdine, and Scully is a great addition to the team (24 kills, .385, 10 digs, but 0 blocks). Sato had 55 assists, 16 digs, running a 5-1 for Pepperdine.

Impressive showing by Scully! Always loved watching her in her prep career, knew she was way underrated.

San Francisco swept Quinnapiac in their opening match: -17, -20, -18.
USF starters: ASHMAN, Kate; BONDAR, LENA; GARCIA, Kathya; ZINGER, Emily; ANTHONY, Erin; ARAUJO, Camille; libero DALLA VECCHIA, Anna.
Garcia had 11 kills (.178), Bondar had 9 kills, hitting .286. Zinger had 6 kills (.308). Team hit .204. Quinnapiac hit negative. It looks like SF is running a 6-2 offense with Anthony and Wada this season.
LMU swept Rhode Island -18, -10, -19.
LMU starters: REID, Tess; MORROW, Alexis; CULO, Bo; TEAGUE, Meredith; SLATTERY, Savannah; BARTLEY, Sierra; Libero WHITFORD, Kekai
LMU hit .253, led by Slattery with 11 kills (.556), Culo’s 9 kills (.126), Kovac’s 9 kills (.190). Emma Johnson had 7 kills on 8 errorless swings, playing in half of the match. Teague had 2 kills, .083. Reid had 30 assists, 4 aces, 6 digs, running a 5-1 offense. LMU had only 4 blocks (8 BA) for the match. It will be interesting to see if this is a trend or not.

San Francisco dropped their second match of the day in 4 close sets to UTSA, and are now 1-1. Set scores were 25-22, 20-25, 22-25, 23-25. The Dons hit .202 in this match. McKenna Marshall had 12 kills (.189), Lena Bondar had 10 kills (.240), Kate Ashman had 8 kills (.700) and Kathya Garcia also had 8 kills (.227). The USF roster lists most of these players in multiple positions, so I have no idea who was playing where.

St. Mary's got out to a rough start against Denver, dropping the first set 25-17. But SMC leads set 2 16-14. Parker seems to be running a 5-1, which is a change for SMC. SMC starters: CALVIN, Lindsey YOUNG, Sienna O'SULLIVAN, Alex PARKER, Alexsa KNUDSEN, Lindsey LAIRD, Jennifer libero KNUDSEN, Kelsey. Live Stats: www.sidearmstats.com/utah/wvball/ and streaming is on the Pac-12 Utah channel. St. Mary's lost in 4 sets to Denver: 17-25, 25-22, 15-25, and 15-25. SMC hit .055 for the match, while Denver hit .285. Lindsey Knudsen had 12 kills hitting .150. Kelsey Knudsen played libero with 8 digs in 4 sets. :/ Sarah Chase apparently didn't play front row. Hmmm. Really disappointing start for SMC. BYU swept Duke after a slow start. -22, -19, -16. Seems like Ballard is not available to play. BYU is playing with 5'10" blockers (The Haddock twins) all the way around on the right. BYU ran away with the third set 25-16 to complete the sweep of Duke. They will have a rematch tomorrow. McKenna Miller had a fantastic match with 14 kills, only 1 error, hitting .483. Roni Jones-Perry, on the other hand, had a real struggle tonight, with 8 kills, hitting 0. Gneiting had 11 kills hitting .391 and Kennedy Eschenberg had 6 kills no errors, hitting .600, so great production from the MB's. Lacy Haddock at Opposite had 3 kills hitting .143. So Ballard is sorely missed at Opposite. Haven't heard anything about her. BYU did put out a release when Hamson was injured and out for the season. Santa Clara was swept by Idaho -12, -16, -19 in their season opener. They lost their top two players from last season to graduation, plus one more to medical retirement, and started an entirely different lineup of many freshmen, who struggled in their opener. They were more competitive in the third set using some veteran players.
San Diego's opener was at Washington. San Diego won the opening set, and dropped the next two. Currently battling it out in set 4.
USD is running a 6-2 with junior setter Anna Newsome and Canadian frosh Madill. USD starters: FULLER, Lauren; PICHA, Addie; MAY, Cami; MADILL, Laura; EDWARDS, Kaity; WIBLIN, Roxie; libero DOUGLASS, Payton.

I heard that Taylen Ballard for BYU has some shoulder soreness. No word on when she will be on the court.

Emma Johnson had 11 kills on no errors hitting .786 Johnson has had some amazing hitting stats so far! Tess Reid is doing a nice job running the offense for LMU. She's athletic, has nice hands and accurate placement, spreads the offense around well. Meanwhile, USF is down 1-2 to Army. About to start set 4. USF still has work to do, but is much improved over last season. Santa Clara just took the first set over New Mexico (in Idaho) 25-21. Running a 5-1 offense with frosh setter Lilliana Light, who is 6'1". Jr Michelle Gadjka and frosh Michelle Shaffer at OH, Jr Ngozi Nwabuzoh at Opp, RS Jr Tr Alexa Dreyer and Taylor Odom at MB, Chloe Loreen at libero.

Santa Clara looked like a hot mess in their opener against Idaho yesterday, starting 3 true freshmen and a transfer and having a huge struggle with serve receive. Today, they apparently got over the first game jitters and swept New Mexico -21, -16, -22 while hitting .286. Fr OH Michelle Shaffer had 12 kills hitting .321, Jr OH Gajdka had 11 kills hitting .231, Jr Opp Nwabuzoh had 10 kills hitting .444. SCU's 6'3 OH Kathryn Decker, who missed her freshman season with a medical redshirt, is apparently still not ready to play. Santa Clara is 1-1 to start the season. I lost track of San Francisco when they were down 1-2 but up 27-26 in the fourth set against Army. Stats have been taken down, so not sure of the outcome of that match. Edit: San Francisco beat Army 3-2 with set scores 21-25, 25-20, 18-25, 28-26, 15-10. USF hit .180 for the match led by Opp Zinger's 15 kills, hitting .433. OH McKenna Marshall had 12 kills hitting .057 and Bondar had 9 kills hitting .114. USF is now 2-1 to start the season. Pepperdine swept Butler to move to 1-1 after their close loss to Cal Poly. Set scores against Butler were -20, -17, -18. Frohling had 14 kills, hitting .385. Scully had 11 kills hitting .219. Ahrens had 8 kills hitting .438 (maybe played Opp? Heidi Dyer did not play this match), MB's O'Harra and Wylie had 7 kills each. Portland swept Campbell -22, -20, -11 while hitting .354. Hoeft, Barker and Pukis had 10 kills each, hitting .350, .667 and .400 respectively. They previously swept CSU Bakersfield, and play host SDSU next. Saint Mary's vs Utah has been delayed for an hour and is just about to start at noon pacific time. Shown on pac-12.com/live/university-utah . Stats at www.sidearmstats.com/utah/wvball/
