Also, I just want to say... Told ya so. Yep. But I also seem to remember you also saying recently that if Haggerty was healthy, Duello doesn't see the starting lineup this year. What do you think about Duello v Williams on the right? Well, that was motivated slightly by my fantasy team lol. Hart on the right would be very helpful to me. But I see what the staff is going for by giving her looks on the right. A Rettke/Hart block for two straight rotations with Hilley and then a DS serving sounds nice. Lots of combo plays in SR is nice. Letting Hart ease into B1G blocking might be smart (I don’t know about her lateral movement). They could also get cheeky and move blockers around depending on matchups. Idk. Y’all know I’m not a Duello fan, so I don’t have much to say there. But the staff clearly liked some of the things she was bringing to the court last season.

While I like their DS/liberos, I think they may still struggle in serve receive based on their outsides. Though Texas will struggle much more than them in passing this year... Haggerty was targeted as a freshman and more than held up. She will be six rotation and we have solid ds.s. Not sure why you're concerned. If their passing is as solid as you imagine, then losing even one match this year would be a disappointment. They have an embarrassment of riches in offensive options, but I still doubt their ability to deliver those players the ball consistently.

She gives our libero a run for her money. Last year we struggled on serve and at outside. If Haggerty is healthy, I don't feel like the latter will be a problem. Haven't seen how serve has improved and it needs to.

Anything to report on serving? I think there has been a bit of a weakness there for a few years, but it is something you could tinker with over a summer.

The two things that caught my eye were that Rettke's serve has improved in consistency, and that Dixon is a strong server. I hope she gets time in as a serving sub. Sheff's said that's something they've been focusing on. I hope so. They'll have to serve out of their minds to beat Texas.

I sat on the end line and Dixon's serve was nasty at times with movement. Other than the fact that Rettke was more consistent (and she has a different "approach" before serving), I didn't notice anything special about the rest of the serving, which means there wasn't much too it (and explains McMahon's production!). I think Dodge had some good serves though. Usually in scrimmage they "try stuff" and didn't see too much of that. It seemed like most serves were to back right, which was often Dodge.

Something I noticed on Saturday (that I had not before) was that Loberg's serve was looking low and flat...it looked tougher than I knew...but she wasn't allowed to serve at all last year, was she? I wonder if she'll get the chance in the pre-B1G season.

They can't have one of their one ace, 12 error matches from last season, but they match up better with Texas in the front row than they have for most of Elliott's tenure, despite the Longhorns having another talented, if a bit thin on depth, group. They also have two liberos essentially who are tested at this level, while Texas is less experienced in that area. They don't have to do anything out of their minds to win, they just have to execute their game well.
