We need someone we can depend on to close. Unfortunately, Hart with her inconsistencies has not shown us to be that go to player for two seasons.
Samedy is being focused on a lot by our opponents with her success last year as a Freshman. If she can work on her "HANG TIME" (which is a thing of beauty) in and out of system, she will be that needed closer we are looking for this year.
Rollins appears to be "fearless" and has a tremendous court awareness for a Freshman. Teams not focused on her as much so why not?

So, Reed was in sweats, but you don’t know if she was injured? You think she was just chillin? Didn’t feel like suiting up that day? The exaggerations are unnecessary, as is the ridiculous notion that Cathey has earned a starting role over Reed. I'm struggling to find where anyone said Reed was benched or on the other side of the spectrum was given the weeekend off in DC. So not trying to sound ridiculous or make unnecessary assumptions, the fact is if Reed cant go or isn't 100% Cathey is in AND....wait for it....4 of the 6 PSU hitters would be Freshmen. Millennium said he didn't know if Reed was injured, despite not playing and being on the sidelines in sweats. That's a nonsensical comment implying, to me, that perhaps Cathey beat her out, which is ridiculous. And, PSU isn't running a 6-2. There are not six attackers. There are five. So, four of the five attackers would be freshmen in the event that Reed cannot play tonight. That is the idea that prompted my comment about utilizing Gorrell on the right and moving Parker to the left, since Cathey has been pretty mediocre so far this season.

Rollins offers the Gophers a lot. But a go-to hitter? Not sure that's ever going to be her role. I have no idea what to expect. But a loss to a rebuilding Penn State at home will be very disappointing. They beat Oregon 3-0 at Stanford, didn’t they?

Of course Millennium knows exactly why Reed appeared in sweats as opposed to playing. He's the only PSU fan on Volleytalk who actually knows what goes on behind the scenes at PSU, but he has to feign ignorance. Wait! Maybe you're the one who actually knows. Whatever the situation, I certainly admire your panache.

To be clear, unless the coaching staff comes out and makes a statement about the health of a player, I don't assume to know anything with certainty.
I was assuming she took a minor injury because she wasn't wearing any medical equipment (i.e., brace, wrap, etc). However, for all I know, Reed could have had a stomach flu or some other relatively short-term illness. In any case, my point was that we have no idea how long she'll be out because the coaching staff has not commented on that situation. If she comes back soon, PSU will be fine.
As Akbar pointed out, no where did I state that Cathey beat her out, only that she started in her place for 2 matches, and that coach had some positive things to say about Cathey. A fact, which you overlooked.
No need to add drama where none exists.

I think the Gophers will be more than fine this season. They have a solid roster and a great coach.
My only concern would be whether they peak too soon.

I agree that they will be good. I just don't know if they are top 8 good (or 4), or top 16 good.

Certainly we have evidence what to look for but.... Regardless, looking forward to the matches tonight. Best of luck to all the teams.

I'd be pleasantly surprised if "we" won, but I see the Gophers as solid favorites in this. especially if Reed doesn't play.
