What's this obsession with Asian recruits? I don't care where Hawaii gets their recruits. They can be from the Palestinian Territories, Seychelles, Zimbabwe, Vietnam, or Bangor, Maine. It doesn't matter to me. The only thing I care about is that they can ball.

Brutus Buckeye. I’m guessing you are a proud grand parent, parent, aunt, uncle, cousin or neighbor. Giving you unsolicited advice, stop posting photos and videos on volleytalk. Open a Shutterfly account, the whole family can watch video and see pics there. You are opening up the opportunity for a whole lot of scrutiny to come this recruits way before she gets to UH. Be smart.

Dude, believe it or not some peeps only went to watch Shoji coached Rainbow Wahine VB because of perceived comradery, in being Japanese. Japanese-American if you like. It does sound crazy.

Keep posting. you have every right to do so. It doesn't ever appear as though you read anything anyhow. BB's got merely one account it seems to me. Post-n-dash I say. lol

It doesn't matter to me. The only thing I care about is that they can ball. I want it bc IMO it's an area in which Hawaii has an advantage over other teams. Just like IMO Stanford should emphasize academics, the relatively good weather, and their national championships bc that's why players (and students in general) want to go to Stanford. Recruiting is very competitive now. It's not like in the old days when all you needed was a good VB program to get recruits. Every program in the US is competing for the top recruits, which come from all over the USA. Those recruits tend to go to a school that's relatively near their home. Asia is an untapped market. One of the few untapped markets for recruiting bc teams already recruit from Europe and Canada. It's also a market in which Hawaii has advantages that no other team has so IMO they should try to connect with it.

Maybe in Asia, they stress more academics than sports? And if youre good enough, you'd probably play in a pro league there. I mean even UCLA tried to get a Phillipine middle, but she opted to stay in the country. When I watch Asian leagues, it's not too impressive. They are quick sure ... but not sure that would translate to NCAA success.

Ur mentality is part of why UH is in the predicament it's in currently. I bet all Hall ever wanted were a few Big, strong bangers at the net. Asians are good setters and liberos. Hwn style, the microcosm, lol.

I wonder if beach recruit Sabrina Hardisty is interested in playing indoor for at least a couple of years to fill the gap between Noreen and Katie. She looks very versatile and athletic in her high school highlights. She sets and plays OPP at Scripp Ranch HS in San Diego.
Very talented and smart young lady who not only plays indoor and beach but is also an accomplished cello player.

Well, hmmm .... unless they can play like the Thai national team, still not sold. The last Hawaii team that reminded me of the Thai National team was the one with Danielson and Otineru (final year maybe). Pure ball control, fast offense with dynamite hitting!

No one is saying that they should only recruit in Asia. They still need to recruit in Hawaii, the mainland, Canada, and Europe. They have advantages in Hawaii and Sweden that other teams don't have too. But being one of the first teams in a new market will pay dividends for a long time. It makes it much harder for other teams to get inroads there.
