I don't see any issue w Robyn phoning her old coach, Ping, to aide w an assist ... maybe two. You'd think that in a country so populated and VB crazed, a tip, any tip, would bound to pay off.

Thoughts on 2019 recruits based on footage/stats, in order of most likely to start to least:
Wagoner (6’ OH) - Complete player, can pass. Nice vertical with an arm. Haven’t seen a lot of variety in shots which is a must in Div I volleyball. On the shorter side so not sure about blocking.
She who shall not be named (6’ 3” MB) - Fast lateral movements with a good vertical touch of 10’ at least and powerful arm swing. She can play right side. High level VB experience
She who shall not be named (6’ 2” OH) - She can play all 6 rotations. Nice serve receive game with scrappy defense. She doesn’t hit from the back row it seems but has the 10’ vertical touch. Hits a hard ball with what looks like a limited shot selection. High level VB experience.
Igiede (6’ 3” MB) - Very raw, with a 10’ 5” vertical touch and powerful arm swing. Reminds of Liva power hits. Lateral movements and approach seem a bit slower.
Akana (6’ OH/OPP) - Seems quick, have heard of her athleticism in blocking and digging but have not seen her passing game. If she has a 30” vert jump like mom then I’m hoping she becomes the next Carly Kan. State game stats weren’t too impressive.
*Still need transfer libero, setter, and OH/OPP. Are we still pending that stud MB?

I've thought the same about Stanford before. They should ask Lang Ping for her rejects. "Hey. You must have some players that are promising but could use some seasoning. You'd rather concentrate on other players who you think are more promising or more ready. Maybe the player values an excellent education. We'll give them a schollie and train them, then you can evaluate them after they graduate. Win-win." It makes sense to have the same fantasy for Hawaii. I doubt that either team does that but it is fun to think about. I do hope that Hawaii can establish good, reliable pipelines to Asia and recruit some players from there.

I’m surprised that Hawai’i hasn’t established recruiting in Asia. It’s a very Asian friendly state that Asian recruits might be comfortable in.

And if a player wants to come to the US, Hawaii is much closer than the mainland. That's important to many ppl so Hawaii has some big advantages compared to other schools.

Need to remember who the President is, and how difficult he has made it to come into the U.S. Blame the President, for Hawaii not going after Asian players.

If you want Hawaii to go after Asian players, then vote the President out of office, first.

Huh??President is the reason we are not getting Asian? Even before Trump, UH was not getting any Asian so why are you blaming him. Last time I heard, China, Japan, South Korea were not on the ban list. Maybe not knowing English plays a big part don’t you think??
We got a Japanese short stop on our baseball team. A reserve running back from Japan on the football team.
Long Beach State have a MB from China. How come she is still here in America if Asian are not allowed into the country?

I'd stack the outsides for as much as possible next season. Keep Krug as a potential #4 MB/Opp contender.
Put Castaneda on an academic scholarship. ONLY promise M.Ross a scholie if she's able to truly compete (a la Akiu in 2018).

Whatever happens for the rest of this season, I still think UH don't have a chance to win BWC, but they do have a chance to be runner-up. That's way better than being 5th, 6th, 7th... I hope RAMS gives the underclassman some playing time, for experience and build confidence for the younger players. So next year, they know what to expect...Like Gaskin should be sidelined and put another younger player in that position. Castillo should be sidelined also and put another youngster. Can indoor players switch to the beach after this season, for off-season play? This is all my opinions and no one else...

Regarding Asian recruits, there aint that much either in the European pro circuits. so maybe they dont like to go out much? yeah, due to language barrier maybe? Or all the good, tall ones are already in some pro league?

Or all the good, tall ones are already in some pro league? I don't think it's the language bc Asia sends a lot of students to the US, compared to other regions. In 2016, there were 1,184,735 international students in the US. 915,612 of them were from Asia. Unless volleyball players are less likely to be able to understand English but that seems unlikely. www.ice.gov/doclib/sevis/pdf/byTheNumbersJun2017.pdf
