Wagoner will be fine. She has all the back row and blocking tools to succeed at this level right now, but she struggled to put the ball away. And its not that she didn't have pop, she hasn't been able to tool the block versus tip over the block. That's all, but it drove Ah Mow crazy and Hawaii needed power swings with Rasmussen and BVS out. Wagoner will be a great outside before its all said and done, reminds me a lot of Tara Hittle.

That's true but Hittle finished her career at UH as a libero. I think Hawai'i would be very good with Riley wearing the Libero jersey. Not sure if she wants to be the libero though.

I think Riley Wagoner might be more like Susie Boogaard. Passes well, digs well, decent blocker, gets kills when needed but not the primary scoring option. Boogaard was All-WAC, 2nd team, 2x
I think Boogaard's level is about right for Riley Wagoner. All Big West, 1st team or HM. If she can improve and hit like Van Sickle, watch out! We'll see where she's at in her sophomore year, if she's more like Van Sickle or more like Tara Hittle.

She could also set a great outside set when the right side hitter was expected to set the second ball off a setter dig. I actually really enjoyed her game, too bad she never really recovered from the ankle injury. With that said, I still think Wagoner is more like Hittle. Hittle was another player who never really got back her outside game after her ankle.

Us and Pepperdine? Is that even a valid question nowadays? LOL, jk. I mean, their Beach team is great but their indoor has been a tad above average for some time now... come on Andrews, BVS's family coaches you. Hawaii is where its at I assume she has visited both Pepperdine and Hawaii. (Was she the girl standing next to Kate Lang at the Hawaii Senior Night festivities?) Scott Wong knows the ins-and-outs of the Univ of Hawaii, the Wahine program, and living in Hawaii so I'm sure she'll get all the facts straight. I don't know much about Pepperdine. It's a religious school so if she's religious, it may be a better fit for her there. The campus is one of the most beautiful in America. It's in Southern California so what's not to like? The beaches, I think, suck and pales in comparison to the ones in Hawaii. There's no large fanbase at Pepperdine so that also sucks. I'm not sure who they have at middle/OPP, but at Hawaii, she'll have to compete with Igiede, Kiraly, Krug (who's no slouch, btw), and possibly Westerberg and Akana if the conversion to OPP/OH doesn't work out for them. That's a lot of competition for her.

Hawaii is where its at I know, I was thinking that too...come to Hawaii. The unfortunate thing is Brooke will be gone when she enrolls so any Van Sickle connection will be lost. I saw her having a good conversation with Kate Lang during their visit. Hope Kate is still in touch with her and maybe she can convince her to come.

With the two scholarships Hawaii has, the obvious going to a setter. I say the next really important position to give is libero. No question. Now, if a big time outside comes our way, great. But Hawaii is loaded with hitters. I suppose having Van Sickle and Wagoner as libero prospects is possible, but I doubt either will be expected to play libero full time. Which means Hanawahine, Gong and Via is all we have. Would love to see Danielson come to UH as a walk on... but she could be worthy of a scholarship too IMO. She's that good in the back row and has potential to be another Ka'aihue and Kahakai. Hawaii has ONE scholarship to give. Kirsten Sibley --> ? Norene Iosia --> Kate Lang Bailey Choy --> Anna Kiraly I believe Rika Okino was on an athletic scholarship and McKenna Ross was not on any scholarship. Rika Okino was NOT on an athletic scholarship, but she may have gotten an academic scholarship. So Robyn still has 1 scholarship to give, Kirsten Sibley's scholarship. Whether Robyn uses it or saves it for 2021, will depend on who is available as a transfer, like a Setter, who is just like Bailey Choy, or better. I am quite sure Robyn is happy with the players she has returning in 2020, so she will not be pressed to just give out that remaining scholarship to just anyone.

But she would also have met Pepp players and recruits. And she's likely having social media conversations with them, too, along with Lang. So, who knows with girls?

I meant "academic" scholarship not "athletic." I knew she was not on an athletic scholarship. You can tell from the context that's what I meant because I said "ONE" and the only one blank is next to Sibley's name.

She could choose Pepperdine for reasons other than volleyball. Like you said, its a beautiful school and in a beautiful area of CA. They have a good school and decent volleyball program. It is also much closer to home and playing in the WCC will allow for her parent to watch her play. With Portland and Gonzaga in the WCC, Mom and Dad will be able to watch her play.

Players like Tiffany Westerberg, Riley Wagoner, and Braelyn Akana, need to use this coming off season, and Spring practice, learn as much as they can from players like BVS and Jolie Rasmussen. The more they learn from these two players, the better they will become in the future.

The way Robyn is recruiting, to me, it seems like she is recruiting Middles who she can switch to play outside if need be. Also, Outside Hitters who she could switch to play DS/Libero, if needed.
