We executed well. Wine did well on the right for Cox being out.
I was glad both matches were on Fox Sports. Got to see Ga Tech and UNC before Friday night.

I think that we have been speeding up our offense. In the games this weekend, when we got a good pass, we were running faster sets to the outside. Our tempo has helped tremendously with getting kills.
I really like Wine on the RS....she hits better and smarter there. I think until Destiny returns, she is solid there. Peck also stepped up big.
GA Tech is a good team on the rise, but in their wins, they have had a lot of help from opponent errors. Their 6 sweeps have also come from bottom of the conference teams, except FSU. Their gym is very hard to play in and that has really helped. I am glad we get them at home. They have lost to BC in 5 at home and also lost to Louisville and ND on the road. But to their credit, they are very balanced offensively. Need a strong serving and defensive game. their defense is ehhhhh. I can see this match being a sweep in someones favor with both teams in the 20s or a 5 set lopsided score match.

Heels up to #61 in RPI this week... 4th in the ACC.
Unfortunately they really only have one match left (FSU) to try and move up (GT is close at #70)... all the other matches are vs teams ranked lower.

Yes, we need to keep winning and hope some others above us lose. Tulsa losing to UConn certainly helped. Starting 1-7, I never thought an NCAA tournament at-large would be in the realm of possibilities, but here we are. I'm so impressed with this team's improvement.

Even though FSU is the only team left above us, RPI also calculates in a way that if we do keep winning, we will rise up. I have said since our dismal start, our goal should be to finish fifth like picked in the preseason. However, I am hoping some others lose and we finish higher. I do think we need to finish winning out. And after seeing FSU get trounced by GA Tech, I am thinking this Friday is our toughest test left. Duke on the road will be a challenge given the rivalry and FSU on the road, but we have the talent and are playing some of our best volleyball in 2 years. I am so impressed with our defense. It has been very strong and the serving during the BC match was some of the best serving I have seen from a UNC team on a consistent basis.
I am watching GA TECH match now to see how they stack up. First thoughts is a much improved and distributed offense, but average serve receive and defense.

I feel like UNC played a very low error game against BC as well as speeding up their offence just a wee bit. BC blockers committed to our middles which gave the outsides cleaner shots. If they can continue to play along those lines they will continue to win. I wonder if Destiny will be back for the weekend? I thought Skylar played a strong match at OPP and so did Peck - very low error. Passing was really good as was defence on balls that managed to get through the block. This team just keeps getting better and better.

Agree, our offense was much more spread against BC and we were lower error. I think this is as we ease more comfortably into the 6-2.
To beat Ga Tech, we need to continue doing what we have been. Spread the ball on offense to keep their defense off balance. Their defense is not as solid. Low blocking team and digging team IMO. We have to serve tough to keep the ball predictable to defend. They have 3-4 hitters at all times with an offensive setter and a back row attack. If our block shows up and our defense behind it, it will be a successful night. We also need to keep the errors low.

So here is a question, with Reed coming in next year and Greer and Fradenburg graduating. That will leave Ryan, Kareena and Diaz in the DS/Libero position, plus Reed. Who plays what?

I really think libero is between Wurl and Reed. Wurl may start because of experience, but I can see Reed taking it. She is so good. I think Ryan and Diaz will be serving specialist and maybe play for a RS now and then if we switch between a 5-1 and 6-2.

What Bll10 said...
Wurl and Reed will compete for the L jersey and whichever one doesn't get it, they will be the primary DS. Both are fantastic and should solidify the back row for the next 3-4 years.
