You know where i sit, do you think they are worth it. Im renewing but every year its something to think about I don't know. Can you see? Your seats are better than mine, anyhow. You're closer and more toward the center of the court. I think it comes down to how much the in-person atmosphere is worth to you. I'd hate to give that up. But I might.

I know I'm probably in the minority, but they lost me when they REFUSED to sell GA tickets and bumped the price way up. I would come early and find a seat in the first row of the second deck and would watch the match for a reasonable price without any problem of people in front of me(as pointed out by *). Personally, I loved being high up-you can see everything, albeit a little ways from the court. But, alas, greed has taken over.

To be fair, I don't think greed was the overriding factor in the assigned seating. It's hard to sell tickets ahead of time, season tickets or otherwise, if you can't guarantee people a decent view or guarantee that the seats they bought will be together. What bummed me the most was restricting the endline bleachers to the students. It makes sense now, since they fill up -- and I'm sure there's a correlation there -- but I hated it at the time. I had *always* sat there. 20 years of loyalty should have been worth more. But I've come to realize I am not in the least important. A good lesson to learn.

Season ticket holders giving input on the quality of the experience is a little tacky. ... But oh, let's hear again how your $1000 seats (that I wouldn't have the option to get even if I COULD afford them, it sounds like) are just fine so you see no need to change? Like (*) I assume you meant to write "premium" instead of "season" there at the start. I'm not sure who here has said things are just fine... premium seater or not. I have, arguably, come closest, but if you read what I've written, ... I have acknowledged, over and over again, that many seats in the Pav are crappy. ... I would -love- to see the fan experience improved on with Pav changes. (AC is one thing that is happening.) What I have also said -- and it is my opinion, though I think it's informed -- is that Williams Arena would not be any better. In my opinion (again) I think it would be worse, both as a fan experience, and for providing a "home team advantage" atmosphere. I have spoken, face-to-face and on the phone, with Golden Gopher Fund reps and told THEM that the VB seating and concessions needs to improve.

I wish you could still gets seats up here... Has anyone ever gotten an explanation as to why the lines of the court do not abut the maroon border around the court? I always assumed there was a reason, but I don't see anyone else doing it. It wasn't the case at the finals either. Is it just because they insisted on using maroon lines?

Does Minnesota get to play Stanford and Oregon again in the Pac/B1G tournament next fall? I heard it was a four year commitment so each school would host but not sure who will be hosting in 2019. Matt Ulmer said at one of his press conferences that it was at Penn State next year, at Oregon in 2020 and Minnesota in 2021.

Season ticket holders giving input on the quality of the experience is a little tacky. It's like when rich white politicians have no idea what it's like to have any other experience, and so they take their own experience as gospel, and screw the rest of everyone else over. The Pav is HIDEOUS as a venue unless you're rich now, apparently. The last time I sat on the bench seats at the Pav was 4 years ago; I'm pretty sure my bony butt is STILL sore from it. Sitting on a concrete slab for three hours with no ability to lean forward or backward is not fun, no matter if it's free or $450. But oh, let's hear again how your $1000 seats (that I wouldn't have the option to get even if I COULD afford them, it sounds like) are just fine so you see no need to change? Yet somehow the Gophers have little problem filling most of the seats for most of the matches. It's still a great value compared to other sporting events in the area. A great atmosphere and if you don't like the Pav than you're free not to support the team in person. Is the Pav the perfect venue no, but it's far from Terrible or HIDEOUS for the majority of fans who attend. Imagine how much tickets would be if they decided to build a new arena for volleyball. Now that would probably price people out of the market for tickets.

I have my doubts, but calling the ticket office and getting on a waiting list is probably the route to take. I remember hearing that they had a waiting list a couple years back... don't know whether they clear it each season, or if it's like Packer tickets, where you get your newborn on the waiting list he he might get tickets when he turns 20. At some point, you'd think they'd open up... Its not like you can pass them down in your will (hmmm, or maybe you can. Gotta check with my estate lawyer.) I believe season tickets can be transferred to immediate family members. Maybe they can just let people sit on the bench, as most teams don't use most of those chairs anyway. Also, I think the Packers season ticket wait time is closer to 30 years, but maybe that will go down after this season. I have been on the Packers season ticket waiting list since 1997. I might be halfway to tickets by now. Maybe.

I'm putting that on my calendar. Penn State, on the other hand, is there any reason other than volleyball to go there?

Take a side trip to Amish country or Gettysburg. That's more than a side trip - that's over 2 hours away. A side trip would be Williamsport. State College is really no different than the other Big Ten towns of Champaign, Bloomington, W. Lafayette, Iowa City, except there are actually mountains, which can't be said for anywhere else in Big Ten Country.

Now that would probably price people out of the market for tickets. Bah. Humbug. First of all, in spite of what JT opines, they have a great VB venue next door. Second, if they did build a new one, or just make the Pav a volleyball venue (not sure that would be cheaper), they are not OBLIGATED to raise ticket prices. I've never understood this about volleyball. We seem so happy to settle for 2,000-6,000 fans and just gouge them as much as we possibly can. Why doesn't someone try to expand their fanbase with a larger venue with reasonably priced tickets? They'd make that much more on concessions, too. Case in point, next year's ticket increases. The have chosen to explore maximum return from what they have rather than exploring expansion of their base. The Pav has AT LEAST 1,500 bad seats in it. Not so-so seats, BAD ones. It wastes so much space, too. I know. It's not going to change. But I don't know why we pretend it's an OK venue. It's not.

You're going to be visited by three spirits in a few days (plus the spirit of a former AD's most famous HS FB player... It rhymes with Marley, and is true). They will try and get you to change your views of the Pav. No, the Barn is not a great VB venue. -- The seating is at least as cramped (chairbacks are even more cramped). -- You will be FARTHER away from the court. -- The closest rows will have their view blocked even more than at the Pav (raised court at WA). We used to have matches at WA to pack the barn and boost our average attendance. The seats were crap. (And yes, I know that we once had -all- our matches there. Before my time, but I'm sure it was still crap, made worse by being nearly empty (even if our attendance at the time was near 2K, which I doubt). The only things WA has over the Pav are total number of seats, and a bigger/better clubroom.
