I think Rylee is going to be very good. Hopefully, Swanson and Holzman, too. And Collins. Good freshmen.
However, if our best and most experienced hitters turn out to be Quade, Prince, Fleming, Vrankovic, Cooney. How do we get them all in the lineup in s 5-1 set?

Either Vrankovic plays middle, where she has some experience although how much is a question, or one of Quade, Prince or Vrankovic sits. It is also possible that Prince gets moved to the right side and Cooney sits. I suppose that if we run a 6-2 Prince and Cooney could sub in for our setters, although Mica is an effective opposite. If Vrankovic plays six rotations in a 6-2 only the libero subs in to play back row. In that scenario Kuper sits. Some very talented players will be sitting, including all of the freshmen. Managing all of this may be a bigger coaching challenge than Tamas had to deal with last year. Much better problem than the last two years when we were a rolled ankle away from disaster.

Agree with your scenarios. Bruna has played some middle. Cooney is 6-4. Has she ever played middle at any level?
Cooney and Prince were 2nd and 3rd in kills for a Finsl Four team. It would be pretty unusual for one of them to lose their job the next season, I would think.
I will be surprised if we run a 6-2 but it could happen. In that case, a talented setter will sit, too.
Lots of options. Lots of talent.
We have the weapons. We need one or both of he setters to click with the hitters and give, say, 85-90% of what Poulter gave us and we will be a force.

I meant that a talented setter will sit if we run s 5-1.

What is the redshirt rule in volleyball? I understand that in football a freshman is allowed to play in four games and still be considered a redshirt.

Holy molly, I finally beat ilikecorn to posting one of these.
Very sad to see her go. Did beth graduate as well? Is she doing a grad degree? Or maybe she is just supporting her friend?

In the words of Bianca Del Rio “Bitches be sweatin’!” I think our success last year and roster next year has the badgers fans nervous that there is a new Big Dog on the block!

Bruna and Cooney are pins and they will not be playing MB. Does anyone know much about Bruna? She's almost like a mystery, dont know too much about her. Will be be a 6 rotation OH from the start?

Congrats to this class of Illinois seniors. I’ve particularly enjoyed them.

I watch replays of Illinois season last year and I am just grateful that Omazic transferred and Fleming came in. She was the missing piece to the puzzle and I dont think we would have been to the final four without Ashlyn. She was a steady horse and worked hard on every point. I feel like she will be a real leader this year

I know we lose a lot in Poulter and Bastianelli, but I am confident this Illini team will still be very strong this coming season. I hope Quade continues to do well for us, even without the tempo of Poulter, but I believe Allison or Brown should be able to get into a similar tempo to Poulter's. Fleming was a nice surprise last year in the middle and Rylee looks to be a high, raw flyer. I am super excited about this group of girls. Tamas and company are doing a great job with this team.

I should have learned by now not to post after having a major beer-drinking day (just finishing my sixth Bud Light Platinum). However, after what I saw from the setters this spring, I have a lot of concern. I actually think the team will be loaded with hitters, blockers, and passers. I am thinking better than last year. My big disappointment was the set placement of all three of the setters. I think it could be argued that volleyball is the utmost team sport. It requires passing, setting, hitting, blocking, and serving (am I forgetting anything?). Jordyn Poulter has shown us for 4 seasons, that an excellent setter can make up for a lot of failure in passing and hitting. However, no matter how good the pass is or the hitter is, if the setter cannot deliver a consistent hitable ball, points are going to be hard to come by. I surely hope the setting corps proves me totally wrong. Can Coach Tamas and staff remedy the setting woes as I see them? Can the Illini faithful expect a miracle year every year? Can set location even be taught by an excellent setting coach (national caliber setter, himself)? If not, we may need to add a setter (no.4) asap. I think I will go brew some super strong black coffee!

Bruna did play some middle in Europe. I agree that she is primarily a pin. If you were the coach, how would you get Quade, Bruna, Cooney, and Prince on the court if they are your best hitters?

This spring they ran a 6-2 and neither setter got real comfortable in the offense. Someone will win the job, Allison or Brown, and they will sync with the team, IMO. They won’t be Poulter but they will be good.
