Brown & Allison were both chosen to rep team USA this summer. That training will be invaluable. They might not be JP immediately but we are in good hands the next 4 years

We need to be patient with the setters. I know that this borders on sacrilege, but Jordyn was not Jordyn her freshman year, and we did not make the tournament her sophomore year. I think that they will be terrific next year, but there is a lot of work to do.

Agreed. We shouldn’t expect either to be senior Poulter.
Mica will be an above average setter, though. The year at Auburn gives her a head start, and she has been successful on the USA team level.
But you are right, patience is needed.

As a reminder, an unheralded transfer setter from powerhouse Connecticut led Illinois to the national championship in 2011. We have two very good setters who will be just fine despite what some fans think. They do not need to be JP for Illinois to be successful.

I think that they will be terrific next year, but there is a lot of work to do. During JP’s soph year we had Quade (freshman), Strizak, Crittendon, Stadick ( with one hand) & Ali after shoulder surgery. Not exactly a line up of hitters who could put the ball away. All the perfect sets in the world wouldn’t help.

And in JP's freshman season, the team and JP were hindered by a coach who was not a strong enough coach to get the whole of the Illini team to buy into an outstanding freshman setter taking over for a senior setter. A senior setter who was also the inspirational team leader. That former coach is now in "Coaching Heaven" at Stanford U.

A national coach of the year, national champion coach, 3 final fours, I think deserves to referred to as more than some coach who can get a team together. IMO

IMO I think it is safe to say that both the Stanford fans and the Illinois fans are happier with the current coaches. Would have been amazing if Illinois and Stanford had played in Minneapolis last December.
