Anyone watching the Cubs game? I was shocked to hear and see the singers of "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" during the 7th inning stretch tonight! Coach Tamas, and it looked like Megan Cooney, Taylor Kuper, Morgan O'Brien, and another young lady I didn't recognize.
Having trouble attaching my photo of my TV screen, but hopefully there will be something out on social media shortly.

There is. Check the IG story feed. That other player is one of my new favorites, local Champaign Central H.S. grad, Rylee Hinton! She is an early enrollee who has been impressive at MB this spring!

Where does Illinois land in the Big Ten this coming season? Losses of Poulter and Bastianelli are significant, but big bruising international pin hitter and two highly acclaimed setters should help close the gap. Do Illini finish in top 5?

Where does Illinois land in the Big Ten this coming season? Losses of Poulter and Bastianelli are significant, but big bruising international pin hitter and two highly acclaimed setters should help close the gap. Do Illini finish in top 5? Illinois will be a "work in progress", but I think the 2019 Illini have the potential to be even better than last year's team...by the end of the season. It may take that long for the coaching staff to sort out the best combination of players and get them clicking as a unit. But the talent and the depth is there, at every position. Setters, hitters, back row. It's all there finally. Their talented young setter(s) will need time and game experience to smooth out their connection with the hitters. It's not clear yet if it will be Brown or Allison that takes the reins, or whether it will be both in certain situations (Allison is so athletically gifted, I don't see how you can keep her off the court, even if Brown ends up with the primary setting role). And I expect the back row to be really solid this year getting first contact balls so the setters can run their fast offense. So to me the question isn't where they finish in the Big Ten this year, it's how soon can they contend for the National Championship. 2019 may be a stretch given all the new pieces, but 2020 could be the year it all comes together.

I think Mica’s athleticism and ability to attack at the net will win out at setter. Brown is good, too, but Mica has that extra.
Of course, if one is clearly connecting with the hitters better, it will be her. But that being equal, Mica has some physical advantages.

Mica has said to friends and family that Brown is one of the smartest people she has been around. On and off the court.

JP setting the USA to a 2-0 lead over Bulgaria in the VNL. Her connection with Dana Retke in the middle is money. Can only imagine if she had come to Illinois. Hambly with a big miss one her.

Hambly missed on nearly every great high school player to come out of Illinois during his tenure. You can go right down the list: Hannah Werth, Lexi Zimmerman, Kelly Murphy, Colleen Ward (lucked into picking her up as a transfer), Valerie Nichol, Lauren Wicinski, Lauren Carlini, Ali Frantti, Courtney Thomas, all three Haggerty sisters, Dana Rettke, Grace Loberg, Ashley Shook, etc.

Let's hope that Tamas can turn that around.

Everyone talked about how he was such a great recruiter. We had one great class and the rest was mediocre.

That was never my biggest issue with Hambly. Are you guys going to turn on Tamas when he doesn't sign each and every top kid in the state? I sure hope not.

You can’t sign everyone. You have a limited number of scholarships per year (usually 2-3). What would be more helpful is if you explained, for a given class year, how many available scholarships Hambly had to work with, what positions he was looking for, the top in-state talent available, and who he eventually signed. Someone should put up a chart as follows: Class year | No. of avail. schols. | Illinois signees | Top In-State recruits | | | | |
