Not trying to start anything, but I finished watching the vs. MN match and while Schmidt and Buzzerio were reliable and good, I couldn't help but notice their verticals aren't very high. Both of them are young, so they have time to work on explosiveness. I'm just saying this cus when Buzzerio roofed Rollins, it was a rather low swing and Buzzerio's arms weren't as high up as I'd expect them to be (elbows well over). If her vert goes up she will be a scary wall to go up against. In contrast, Hughes has great hangtime.
And trust me, I understand the vertical are probably the hardest thing to train. You can't just magically jump a five inches higher, otherwise everyone would be flying out of the gym at this point.

What is going on? I haven’t seen stats or replays other than the MN match. Rough stretch for the Hawks.

We are in a very rough spot for remaining eligible for the NCAA tourney. At 2-6 in conference we need 8 more wins to stay above .500
Here is who we have remaining:
Wisconsin Minnesota Nebraska x2 Penn State Illinois
Michigan Purdue Ohio State Indiana Maryland Rutgers
Essentially what I'm seeing is we have to steal 2 matches from that top group and sweep through the bottom group. That's really the only way I see us making it through. We have Purdue/Indiana this week and I would see both as must-win matches for the ladies.
It's an incredibly tough road ahead but the challenge is there, let's see how the Hawkeyes Rise to the opportunity!

Watching them on BTN yesterday, they have more tools and talent than they’ve had in years past. Granted Indiana didn’t pose much of a consistent threat for whatever reason - but Iowa kept their foot on the gas pedal and grinded our that must-win match. Sweeping a Purdue-Indiana roadtrip is the opposite of easy. Purdue is always tough to play in their gym, and IU is in desperation mode after losing back-back matches to Maryland and Iowa. The obvious element is that neither team can afford a loss on Saturday night.

The obvious element is that neither team can afford a loss on Saturday night. Purdue has also survived two 5-set scares against Indiana and Ohio State. So really all three teams are going to be on edge this weekend, and vulnerable. Iowa needs to go in calm and confident and just stay steady. They can survive set bursts by their opponent and take 4/5 set match wins but like you said, only by keeping their foot on the pedal.
