Anyone heard any news regarding Orr's injury? Last I heard she was held out of the Indiana match due to concussion protocol... have not heard anything about the timeline for her return.

Serious depth question... any incoming setters? Brie is the only one listed as a setter. C. Buzz is RS but has been a S. No one else has a S appended to their position.

Courtney Buzzerio is both a setter and a right side. She set against Indiana and looked good, recording 51 assists in 5 sets. Courtney is a sophomore, so I think the expectation is that Orr will be the setting in 2020 and then Buzzerio takes the reins for her senior year in 2021. Jenna Splitt is a 2021 recruit listed as a S/RS. She's been setting for her high school team and playing RS for her club team. Iowa is recruiting her as a setter, which is why she committed to Iowa. At 5'10", she's a bit small for RS in the college game.

So, given this, I see appropriate depth coming. Splitt is a lefty, too. Just an added plus to note. Link to info about Ortega: qctimes.com/sports/high-school/volleyball/north-setter-ortega-pledges-to-iowa-volleyball-program/article_f0e200fe-bc89-558f-aa4c-22400f357b0c.htmlAs for C Buzz, I concur that she came in on very short notice to set against Indiana last weekend and looked great! I was especially impressed with her connection with the middles, which can sometimes take time to establish. She was putting those sets right where Amiya and Hannah wanted them and their stats sure showed that! I do think it will be interesting in 2021 to see how the setting position pans out. While C Buzz would be a great choice, it may be quite a decision to make to potentially remove her from that RS position if she keeps developing and producing like she has so far this year in that role. Nice to have options, right?

Just for fun's sake... here is a list of the B1G teams we played either once or twice, ranked in order of current conference standing and highlighted based on schedule favorability:
x1 Wisconsin x2 Minnesota x2 Nebraska x2 Penn State x2 Michigan x1 Purdue x2 Illinois
x2 Ohio State x1 Michigan State x1 Maryland x1 Rutgers x2 Indiana x1 Northwestern
Sitting at 11th in conference is certainly disappointing... but looking at this schedule, going .500 in conference was going to be a real fight. We would've needed to upset teams and also been practically perfect against the lower half.
We thankfully got Indiana & a middling Ohio State on our schedule twice (taking 1 L to Ohio State isn't unexpected and a healthy Hawkeye team should theoretically compete against the Buckeyes). Another shot against Michigan State or Rutgers would've been ideal.
I'm very much so looking forward to our newly decided annual upset of the Wisconsin Badgers on 11/22!

Yes, it was always going to be a tough schedule. My hope at the beginning of the year was that they would go 8-3 or 9-2 in non-conference, which would allow for a sub-.500 record in conference play and still be tournament eligible. The big question for the rest of the year is which team will show up: the team that battled Penn State in set 2 or the team that let Rutgers walk all over them? Given how inexperienced this group is, I don't think anyone knows. Like it or not, really we're just building for next year.

The thing that pisses me off about Iowa is that they force me to root against Bre Peyton, one of my favorite players of all time.
My older son adored her, and she loved him. Now we have to root against her.

Now we have to root against her. I'd have to root against them if they ever played UNI, but since that hasn't happened for over 14 years (other than spring ball), I haven't had to worry about it.

I have been hoping sometimes in writing that the State of Iowa will have the big 4 play each other during pre-season. I think it would be great for our State’s volleyball programs and Fans. Iowa, Northern Iowa, Iowa State, & Drake. We are glad to have Bre with us!

Iowa, Northern Iowa, Iowa State, & Drake. We are glad to have Bre with us! I'm guessing some of the reasons why UNI v. Iowa hasn't happend for so long: - UNI often tries to build their non-conference schedule to maximize RPI in order to maintain a chance at an at-large bid, and Iowa hasn't always been that good of an RPI opponent (though they have been getting better). - the home-and-home arrangement between UNI and Iowa State has benefited both programs, generating some of the biggest crowds and more often than not making for exciting and fun matches, and they don't want to give up hosting that every two years, any more than Iowa would want to give up hosting the CyHawk match every two years. - there might be other things I don't really know about
