OH: Hatch/Anderson OH: Herbst MB: Rhodes MB: Herrera RS: Holthaus S: Mauck L: Enna DS: Baranski Couple of newbies could slip in, like Hatch. Not sure how Rhodes is doing with recovery. CJL has talked about the incoming freshman a lot and at spring Holthaus had to play OH due to injuries... will be interesting to see after their South American trip!!

longhorn20, would you clarify your statement comparing O'Neal and Phillips. I don't know which would bring more offense or better defense? Thanks, David

Kansas is the only team not to post a schedule in the Big 12 - as soon as they do I will give my analysis of each team's schedule. For now, I am aware of 1/2 of Kansas non conference schedule.
2nd Weekend: Albany, South Carolina, UCF (@ UCF) 3rd Weekend: Arizona, Morehead State, Syracuse (@kansas)
All of these matches are the only matches played on that day (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) - which is a departure for them in scheduling, and something that more teams are doing and is a good thing. Especially in the Big 12 where there are only 16 conference matches and open dates should not be a problem (the B1G Ten and PAC need to play some 2 match OOC weeks or double up matches on days).
These opponents had a combined w/l% of .707 last year compared to the .636 percentage for Kansas OOC opponents last year. 4 of the 6 had an RPI inside the top 40 - where getting 1/2 inside the top 75 will get them the scheduling bonus. Last year's schedule helped Kansas in terms of RPI, although in the aggregate the OOC teams were not nearly as good last year as the year before. So, chasing off of just last year's record doesn't always work as intended. But, so far - this schedule looks pretty darn good in terms of RPI. Albany and Morehead State are not very strong teams, but have the potential to have very good records. The other 4 teams offer challenging competition while 1) probably maintaining good to excellent records, 2) not so good that Kansas would have a small chance of winning, 3) Seem likely to finish in the top 75 in RPI.

And Kansas got their 3rd MB commit for the 2020 class. This class has a lot of depth (the best since I have been following Kansas) and the potential for 3 senior aces and possibly a couple in the T50. It will be the 3rd straight season of having a very good recruiting class - 2018-2020 will be by far the best 3 year recruiting run in school history. Not sure what they are going to do with all these MBs? This 3 year run will have 6 MB, does Van Driel convert to OH?

Fourth weekend Kansas is at UNLV and will face Arizona State and former Jayhawk Jada Burse. Should be interesting. Not sure if there is a fourth team, but ASU posted their schedule and only had those three on it.

Those are Thursday/Friday games in Las Vegas and Kansas is off the first Wednesday of the start of the conference season. First conference match will be at home the following Saturday against Baylor. This gives them an opportunity to get a Monday or Tuesday match before conference season if they can find the right opponent. Arizona State doesn't seem like a good choice for the non conference...

Texas Volleyball Named Big 12 Preseason FavoritesJune 27, 2019 For the 12th time in program history and the ninth consecutive year, the Texas Longhorns were voted the favorite in the Big 12 for the upcoming 2019 season. The preseason poll is determined by league head coaches, who are not permitted to vote for their own team. Since 2011, Texas has lost a total of seven conference matches for a record of 121-7 (.945), which included two perfect records of 16-0 (2013 & 2017). Texas owned a 24-match win streak in conference play which was comprised of a perfect 16-0 record to cap off the 2017 season, as well as its seven wins to start out the 2018 season. In team hitting percentage, the Longhorns led the nation last season with a .310 clip. UT also had a presence in the preseason Big 12 individual awards as Micaya White garnered Preseason Player of the Year recognition for the second consecutive year, while rookie teammate Skylar Fields earned Preseason Freshman of the Year honors, alongside TCU’s Audrey Nalls. 2019 BIG 12 VOLLEYBALL PRESEASON POLL Rank Team (First-place Votes) Points 1. Texas (8) 64 2. Baylor (1) 57 3. TCU 42 4. Iowa State 40 5. Kansas State 34 6. Oklahoma 33 7. Kansas 31 8. Texas Tech 14 9. West Virginia 9

What is interesting to me is that the top-tier teams are consistently top-tier with Texas dominating this league year after year. The bottom-tier teams are consistent as well with WVU the celler-dweller year after year. There seems to be little to no parity in this league. What will it take to make it more competitive top to bottom in league? Better coaching, recruiting, or scheduling. I don't, and haven't seen the bottom of this group change for many years even though they carry overall winning records. It seems to me that in the Big10 and Pac12 the potential is there for any team to pull off an upset on any given night, but not in the Big12.
